Wimbledon 2026 LIVE RESULTS: Jannik Sinner in deciding set vs Kecmanovic as Jack Draper PULLS OUT & Cam Norrie beaten

0
Bad day for the Brits

Britain’s miserable start to the Championships continues as Cameron Norrie is dumped out in a major shock.

Norrie, 30, lost a gruelling five-setter to American qualifier Michael Zheng, which lasted over four hours.

Britain’s No1 started well out on Court No2 and showed no signs of the rib injury that forced him to withdraw from the French Open last month.

He took the first and third sets on tiebreaks, but Zheng showed great fight to claim the second and fourth ones 6-2 and 6-3.

That set up a decider and Zheng – who just graduated from Columbia University with a psychology degree – held his own to win the final tiebreak 10-4.

Norrie had been one of Britain’s great hopes for these Championships after making the quarter-finals last year, but has now lost his last five matches on the spin.

Jannik Sinner* 4-6 6-3 6-7 6-2 Miomir Kecmanovic

Sinner levels the match but it’s hardly commanding.

Becks and his mum have been served up for of a treat of a match that would rival anything Mary Berry, sat next to the pair, could rustle up in the kitchen.

It’s going to five sets which would have been the last thing the world No1 would have wanted on his first match since the French Open.

Although for now, all he wants is to make it to Round 2 and get treatment on his bloodied foot.

*Hugo Gaston 1-6 2-3 Stefanos Tsitsipas

The Greek star is well on top against his French counterpart – he’s a set and a break up.

The 27-year-old has had a tough time on the court after going out in the second round at Roland Garros.

But he looks comfortable and clinical here after winning all of his 1st serve points so far.

Jannik Sinner 4-6 6-3 7-5 Miomir Kecmanovic

WOW – the upset is ON!

Sinner loses the third set and Kecmanovic leads 2-1.

This match is in the Serbs favour, 42 unforced errors for the defending champ compared to 17 for Kecmanovic.

There have only been 10 break points in this match, with each picking up only one.

Don’t be surprised to see this go the distance.

Heartbreak for Dart

Game, set and match.

Jelena Ostapenko wins it 6-3 3-6 7-5 against Harriet Dart.

That was one of the British star’s best performances in quite some time after a tough year but it was not enough to beat Ostapenko.

She looks heartbroken as she leaves the court after being eventually overpowered in the crucial stages of the deciding set.

Casper Ruud 4-6 2-6 6-7 Hubert Hurkacz

Game, set and match! 11th seed Ruud is OUT after being swept aside in straight sets.

Ruud never quite got into his stride until the third set, when he made Hurkacz fight into a deciding tie-break.

And it was a messy tie-break as both players were guilty of some unforced errors before Ruud hit a shot beyond the baseline to hand Hurkacz a third match point of the game.

But the Polish player made no mistake in sealing his spot in the second round.

Jelena Ostapenko* 6-3 3-6 4-4 Harriet Dart

Ostapenko the pantomime villain!

She is broken after her own double fault and there are huge cheers from the fans.

It winds up Ostapenko and she lifts a sarcastic thumbs up to the crowd.

She is now being booed by the crowd and there is a raucous atmosphere every time Dart wins a point now.

Michael Zheng* 6-7 2-6 6-7 Cameron Norrie

Norrie takes the third set!

Didn’t make it easy for himself there as he was forced into a second tie-break of the match.

But there was only going to be one winner in this stage as he eased to a 7-2 tie-break win.

Zheng couldn’t get into his stride at the end there and it’s advantage to the Brit.

Jelena Ostapenko* 6-3 3-6 4-2 Harriet Dart

Brilliant stuff from Ostapenko.

She looked to have lost control in the second set but has re-found her accuracy.

Dart’s second serves were far too weak and they were eaten up by Ostapenko as she fired them back into the corners, giving her no chance.

Dart is not out of this yet though…

Jelena Ostapenko 6-3 3-6 1-2 Harriet Dart*

Three breaks in this deciding third set.

A couple of net cords off the Ostapenko racquet land on the Brit’s side and then she double faults to hand her the game.

But Ostapenko hits two doubles herself to allow Dart to snatch the break back.

Dart can win this if she can stay in the rallies as Ostapenko has a lot of power but is lacking control at the moment and she could be losing her temper.

Jannick Sinner 4-6 6-3 Miomir Kecmanovic*

Is that Sinner rust getting a tune up?

After surprisingly losing the first set to his Serbian opponent the top seed rattles off the next three games.

With David Beckham looking on from the Royal Box at Centre Court, the world No1 just about holds on to his own serve to level the match.

He’s not making it looks easy. But we’re all square and Becks and his mum are giving him a round of applause.

Draper statement in full

Was due to face No 6 seed Taylor Fritz on Centre Court before his decision to withdraw.

Draper has struggled with a number of injuries since suffering an arm issue during the 2025 clay court season.

He said: “Devastated to share that I have had to withdraw from my first round match due to a recurrence of my arm injury.

“There have been a lot of painful moments in the last 12 months but this one is definitely the absolute worst as there is no greater honour for a British player than playing at Wimbledon.

“I will continue to persevere through this. Thank you for the support.”

Jelena Ostapenko* 6-3 3-6 0-0 Harriet Dart

With Emma Raducanu and Jack Draper pulling out through injury, British hopes look lost…

Step forward Harriet Dart who has come from behind to force a deciding set on Court No1 to the delight of the supporters.

Ostapenko is no stranger to making unforced errors and they have sneaked into her game in that second set and Dart looks determined.

Dart has won just one match on the WTA Tour this year and if she knocks out the former French Open champion today it would be a real shock – and one British tennis needs!

Draper OUT of Wimbledon

Jack Draper is out of Wimbledon due to injury – in the second double whammy for British tennis.

The Brit, 24, has been struggling with injuries over the past year, ever since he hurt his arm during the 2025 clay-court season.

And 24 hours before he was due to face American No.6 seed Taylor Fritz on Centre Court, it was announced that the former US Open semi-finalist was withdrawing.

It comes the day after Emma Raducanu quit the tournament due to a stress fracture in her shin.

Michael Zheng 6-7 6-2 Cameron Norrie

Zheng has taken the second set against Norrie – and in style.

The 22-year-old has just graduated with a psychology degree from Columbia University, so maybe that is why he was able to bounce back so easily.

He looked so calm in that set, holding his serve midway through when Norrie had two break points.

Chwalinska suffers agonising collapse

You really have to feel for Maja Chwalinska, who lost 6-2, 5-7, 2-6 to Manachaya Sawangkaew despite leading 6-2, 5-2 before getting injured on match point.

She suffered a crushing collapse as Sawangkaew recovered by winning the second set and then taking control after going 4-2 up in the third.

Chwalinska had her head in her towel at the end there. Absolutely devastated and you can’t blame her.

Jelena Ostapenko* 6-3 0-3 Harriet Dart

Dart breaks!

The Brit is back in this one after battling her way to a break point, drawing huge cries from the crowd.

She misses the first chance as Ostapenko nails another shot into the corner and celebrates wildly.

But then the Latvian double faults and it’s a gift for Dart… who later goes 3-0 up.

From Simon Collings on Court 2

Some good news from here at Court No2, where Cam Norrie has just won the first set. It was a tight set, with Norrie taking it 9-7 in the tie break.

Fair play to the USA’s Michael Zheng, who has looked lively. Norrie, encouraging, looks to have fully shaken off that rib injury that forced him to retire from the French Open.
