Ismael Saibari is seriously talented and recently secured a well-earned move to Bayern Munich. He scored in Morocco’s opener against Brazil with a brilliant run and finish right through the heart of Marquinhos and Gabriel in the backline.

He’s set to continue playing in this false nine role for Morocco, which should see him act as their main source of goals. He’s really suited to this role, having scored 15+ goals across all competitions for PSV in each of his last two seasons, as well as playing a prominent role during qualifying with three goals across just three starts.

Saibari should have plenty of confidence here from Morocco’s opener. He’s definitely not going to get the same space in this clash given how I expect Steve Clarke to set up, possibly tweaking to a back five, but he’s still got that star quality to unlock the Scotland backline if they are compact and tough to break down.

This landed in Scotland’s opening game against Haiti thanks to Paddy Power’s new shot-on-target market, which includes hitting the woodwork.

It’s a really useful bonus you get when backing players for a shot on target. I’ve been stung many times by an effort coming back off the woodwork for a shot-on-target bet, but there’s now that extra security with this market.

McTominay got two shots away in that opener against Haiti and wasn’t even fully recovered from a stomach bug that had been affecting his preparations for the tournament. He’s obviously one of Scotland’s most effective attacking players and scored twice during qualifying, averaging bang on 1.00 shots on target per 90.

I don’t see Scotland having loads of chances in this game, but McTominay should see a few sights of goal with how effective he is when it comes to crashing the box and the threat he offers from set pieces. He’s also capable of a moment of magic, as we saw against Denmark earlier this year when he netted a brilliant bicycle kick.

Set pieces have already been a massive factor in this World Cup, and I expect that to continue over the next few weeks. The games have been a bit more open than I anticipated, mainly because a lot of the smaller nations don’t seem afraid of stepping out of a low block and actually carrying some attacking threat.

Morocco only registered two corners in their opening game against Brazil, but that tally is bound to increase here now that they are the dominant side. They also conceded six corners in that game, which is good news for Scotland, as this could be an avenue to goal for Steve Clarke’s side, with chances from open play likely to be quite limited.

Scotland’s games during qualifying saw an average of 11.17 corners per game. They saw 10+ corners in 67% of their matches, notably winning at least four corners themselves in 67% of those matches.
