Altay Bayindir's former coach provides update on interest from Turkish clubs

Altay Bayindir faces an uncertain future at Manchester United after losing his place in the team to Senne Lammens earlier this season.

Ruben Amorim decided he had had enough of Andre Onana at the start of the season when he opted to give Altay Bayindir the nod in Premier League games.

The former United head coach changed his mind again after Senne Lammens arrived to keep a clean sheet in his first game as the Red Devils beat Sunderland 2-0.

Bayindir made six appearances for United this season, during which he conceded 11 goals.

Altay Bayindir has interest from Besiktas and Fenerbahce

At the age of 28, Bayindir will likely feel he has spent enough time on the bench at United and look to leave for regular football this summer.

Bayindir was linked with a January exit but was kept as back-up for Lammens until the end of the season.

Ahead of Tom Heaton in the pecking order, Bayindir hasn’t played a game since losing his place to Lammens against Sunderland earlier this season.

Bayindir’s former coach, Mustafa Kaplan, who worked with the Turkey national team goalkeeper at Ankaragücü, claims his former stopper has interest from Besiktas as well as Fenerbahce.

“I played goalkeeper Altay Bayindir at Ankaragücü at a very young age,” Kaplan told sporx.

“I gave him a chance against Galatasaray. He conceded 6 goals. They said not to play him again. I stood by him.

“Today he’s in Manchester. Besiktas already wants him, but Fenerbahce is also considering bringing him back. We might see Altay in place of Ederson next season.”

Bayindir has been linked with Besiktas recently, so those links are nothing new – but a return to Fenerbahce could also be an option for United’s second-choice keeper.

Ederson left Man City to join Fenerbahce, Bayindir’s former club, at the beginning of the season.

The Turkish league is a good market for goalkeepers, as Onana learned by joining Trabzonspor on loan this term.
