Liverpool Champions League winner Fabinho has hinted that he would be open to a return to European football and a reunion with two fellow ex-Reds at Real Madrid next season.

The 32-year-old left Anfield in 2023 to start a new career in the Saudi Pro-League, joining Al-Ittihad in a move that was reportedly worth £40m to the Reds.

Fabinho won a league and cup double in the 2024-25 season but is soon to be out of contract and seemingly in search of pastures new.

After Brazil were dumped out of the World Cup by Norway in the round of 16, the former Monaco player headed straight to Madrid to spend time with friends and family and whilst visiting the Spanish capital, he was asked by El Chiringuito TV why he was here and what his plans for next season were.

Fabinho told reporter Marcos Benito: “My contract with Al-Ittihad is coming to an end, but I’m coming to Madrid because I have family here and we’ll be staying here for a while.

“When the World Cup ended, I wasn’t really sure what to do or where to go, but we decided to come here to be close to our family here in Spain.

“And it’s really nice here, too, so we’ll stay here for a little while.”

When pushed on whether he would like to play for Los Blancos under Jose Mourinho, Fabinho, who won six major honours with Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, said: “Man, Real Madrid. Who wouldn’t want to play for Madrid? It’s the biggest team in the world.

“But as for my situation, as I told you, I have time to think about it now. I’m going to talk to my agents and see what happens.

“Right now I don’t have anything lined up so there’s not much point in talking about teams or team names, but it’s a league I’d generally like to come and play in.”

Fabinho is no stranger to Mourinho or the Bernabeu, having spent a season on loan with the Spanish giants early in his career, making just one senior appearance for Los Blancos.

He spent five seasons at Anfield, winning every major trophy on offer, including the Premier League title and the Champions League.

Should his dream of a return to Real Madrid come to pass, he will be playing alongside two former Liverpool stars in the form of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate.
