Coco Gauff meets Jessica Pegula in Wimbledon women's quarterfinal

0
A battle of American women will take center stage at Wimbledon on Tuesday, July 7, with a quarterfinal match between No. 4 seed Jessica Pegula and No. 7 Coco Gauff.

The two are very familiar with each other's games after having been doubles partners for several years, including during the 2024 Paris Olympics. However, they've since split amicably to concentrate on their singles careers.

Both are looking for their first Wimbledon title. Pegula has never won a Grand Slam event, with her best finish as the runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka at the 2024 U.S. Open. Gauff, meanwhile, has won a pair of majors − the 2023 U.S. Open and 2025 French Open.

Pegula has a 5-3 advantage in head-to-head meetings with Gauff.

Coco Gauff could be staging another of her patented late rallies.

After dropping the first set, Gauff overpowered Jessica Pegula in the second set, breaking Pegula twice and holding her own serve every time to prevail 6-3 and pull even in the match.

That will set up a deciding third set and what could be a thrilling finish.

The first-game break holds up and Pegula takes the early lead by winning the opening set 6-4.

Pegula put pressure on Gauff's forehand throughout and Gauff made 16 unforced errors to tilt the match in her favor.
