Mexico have rung some changes with goal-scorer Raul Jimenez off along with Luiz Romo.

Santiago Gimenez is on for Jimenez - you couldn’t script a more fittingly named replacement.

The home side just had a nervous moment as Ecuador striker Rodriguez almost tapped the ball under the keeper for a goal.

Sadly for Ecuador, the ball went just wide of the post.

Mexico are tempting fate a bit at the moment, they would love a third goal to make sure of this result.

Mexico 2-0 Ecuador after 75 minutes.

The Mexicans have started to sit back a little and defend their box as Ecuador chase a much-needed goal to claw their way back from 2-0 down.

Tall striker Kevin Rodriguez has come on for Valencia – he is a rangy forward who plays in Belgium.

Mexican fans are whistling and jeering for every possession from Ecuador.

It’s a nervous time for both sets of fans.

Mexico 2-0 Ecuador after 64 minutes.

Ecuador have made two subs at half-time with wide man Angelo Preciado coming on for defender Joel Ordonez while Yeimar Media is on for Alan Franco, who picked up a yellow card just before the break.

Expect to see Preciado attacking down the wings, mostly the right, while Medina will likely play a central role whether in defence or in front of the defence.

Mexico 2-0 Ecuador after 47 minutes

Mexico are up 2-0 and are 45 minutes from locking in a home quarter-final, one that would be against England if the Three Lions can beat DR Congo in their round of 32 match.

But El Tri can’t afford to look beyond this upcoming half of football as Ecuador will press, grind and continue to look for a goal.

They’ve gone very close on several occasions but haven’t hit the target.

Quinones and Jimenez have scored the goals for Mexico and the home side look capable of some more goals too.

Mexican striker Raul Jimenez rode some tackles and made a one-two pass with a teammate before powering the ball into the top corner.

Mexico City is roaring as Jimenez is a national hero yet again. He also becomes the second-highest scorer in Mexican history with 47 goals.

Ecuador need a response or this game could be over before half-time.

Mexico 2-0 Ecuador after 33 minutes.

With a capacity crowd behind them, Mexico have had all the momentum in the first 17 minutes with six shots on goal.

But none have been on target yet.

The 17-year-old Mexican Gilberto Mora has caused all kinds of problems, but his curving shots have all missed.

Ecuador have just had a shot on goal as well – they are playing on the counterattack so far but clearly want to try and force some turnovers so they are pressing at times as well.

Mexico 0-0 Ecuador after 19 minutes.

Egypt captain Mohamed Salah resumed training on Tuesday, participating in part of the team’s session as he continues his recovery from a hamstring strain and boosting hopes he will be fit for Friday’s World Cup last-32 clash against Australia.

Salah was substituted during Egypt’s 1-1 draw with Iran in their final group match, casting doubt over his availability for the knockout tie in Dallas.

Photos posted on the Egyptian Football Association’s Facebook page showed a smiling Salah back on the training pitch in Spokane, where Egypt have been preparing for the Australia match.

The team accompanied the images with the caption: “The King is back”.
