Kirstie Gordon will return to Scotland colours at the Women's T20 World Cup this summer, almost seven years after her last appearance for England in the 2019 Ashes, having been named in a 15-player squad for the tournament that gets underway in June.Gordon, 28, played 60 times for Scotland as a left-arm spinner between 2012 and 2017, before switching allegiance to England in time for the 2018 T20 World Cup. Now, however, she is back with her original set-up, having reaffirmed her desire to play for Scotland in December last year. She will be playing under her Blaze team-mate Kathryn Bryce, and alongside three graduates from Scotland's Under-19 World Cup campaign in Malaysia last year, with bowlers Gabriella Fontenla and Maisie Maceira selected alongside wicketkeeper-batter Pippa Sproul.Craig Wallace, Scotland Women's Head Coach, said that Gordon's return to the Scotland set-up was proof of how far they have progressed in recent years, with the squad set to feature in its second consecutive T20 World Cup, following their maiden tournament appearance in the UAE in October 2024."It was hugely difficult to select a fifteen, but that's testament to the growth and success of the women's game in Scotland over the last few years," Wallace said. "The depth we have now to choose from is incredible and every selection is enjoyable, but really tough. I think we've got a really good balance in the squad in terms of what we think we need to succeed in this tournament.""Kirstie's decision to come back home and choose to play for Scotland again shows just how far the team have progressed to, and it's great for our players to have the chance to play with one of the best in the world."Gordon made all five of her England T20I appearances at the 2018 T20 World Cup, including their eight-wicket loss to Australia in the final in Antigua. Her best bowling figures of 3 for 16 came on debut against Bangladesh, and she subsequently picked up three wickets in her only Test, a drawn match against Australia at Taunton in 2019."We have multiple world-class players in this team, and Kirstie is definitely one of them," Wallace added. "We welcome her involvement in the group and expect her to drive our standards up even more and help us to improve Scottish cricket. I'm looking forward to working with her and helping her enhance her own skills as well."Scotland have been drawn against England and Ireland in Group B, as well as West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka. Their opening fixture is against Ireland at Old Trafford on June 13.
