More strong results on the ATP Challenger Tour

There were more positive results for the British players on the ATP Challenger Tour last week.

David Stevenson reached the final of the Tallahassee Challenger men’s doubles with Cleeve Harper.

The British, Canadian duo finished runners-up to Americans Stefan Dostanic and Alex Rybakov 6-4, 6-2.

Stevenson has now reached four ATP Challenger finals this season, winning three titles in Nottingham, Oeiras and Cherbourg.

Liam Broady continued his impressive form with a run to the semi-finals of the Busan Challenger, eventually retiring against eighth seed Leandro Riedi trailing 7-6(3), 2-3.

It was a similar story for Charles Broom who made a semi-final at the Wuning Challenger in China. He narrowly lost out on a place in the final to Li Tu 6-3, 1-6, 7-6(6).

Shuker claims Rouen titles

Lucy Shuker was in title-winning form for the second week in a row after she claimed both the women’s singles and doubles WT 100 wheelchair titles at the Rouen Open.

Arriving in France on the back of trophy success at the Kobe Open in Japan, the British No.1 partnered Pauline Deroulede of France to the doubles title in Rouen. The top seeds defeated France’s Zoe Maras and Zuleinny Rodriguez Trujillo of Colombia 6-2, 6-2 to claim their second title together this season.

Shuker, who has now won three doubles titles in the first third of 2026, now sits on 97 career titles across women’s doubles and mixed doubles draws, 95 of those coming in women’s doubles.

In the women’s singles, Shuker produced a stirring comeback against Deroulede in the final to seal her first singles title of 2026 1-6, 6-2, 6-2.

Britain’s Abbie Breakwell also reached the semi-finals before losing to Deroulede 4-6, 6-3, 6-0.

Elsewhere, Gordon Reid came out best of the six Brits at the WT500 Seoul Korea Open, reaching the men’s singles final after straight sets wins over fellow Brit Dahnon Ward, Israel’s Sergei Lysov and Takuya Miki of Japa.

Second seed Reid made a fine start to the title decider before eventually losing out 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 to world No.3 and top seed Martin de la Puente of Spain.

Ben Bartram was a semi-finalist in the men’s doubles in Seoul, where Greg Slade bowed out in the quad singles semi-finals and quad doubles finals and Slade, Reid, Bartram and Ward are now among six Brits who will contest this week’s Japan Open, the third WT1000 Premier Tier tournament of the year.

Andy Lapthorne also won his first match of the season on clay after he beat Spain’s Roberto Romo Martin 6-0, 6-0 to reach the quad singles semi-finals at the WT500 Allianz Para Trophy in Munich. Lapthorne then lost out 7-6(2), 6-3 to eventual tournament champion and second seed Sam Schroder of the Netherlands.

Five ITF doubles champions

There were ITF doubles titles for five British players this week, with James Hopper, Finn Murgett, Marcus Walters, Emile Hudd and Stefan Cooper all claiming silverware.

Hopper teamed up with USA’s Zachary Fuchs to win the M25 Santa Margherita di Pula title, after Italian duo Tommaso Compagnucci and Juan Cruz Martin Manzano retired in the final trailing 3-2.

Murgett and Walters lifted their third doubles title together at the M15 Heraklion, winning a close final 7-5, 6-7(4), 10-4.

Hudd and Australian Matt Hulme came away with the M15 Singapore title thanks to a 6-3, 6-2 final victory against Chen Dong and Cruz Hewitt, Hudd’s 13th doubles title since 2023.

Finally, Cooper claimed the second pro title of his career at the M15 Pretoria with Giulio Perego. Cooper and Perego beat Vasillos Carpi and Jesse Flores in the final 6-2, 6-4.
