Alex Eala seeks to extend historic Wimbledon run

MANILA, Philippines — Seeking to extend her Wimbledon run, Alex Eala faces defending champion Iga Swiatek in the third round at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club Center Court on Saturday.

The round of 32 match is set at 8:30 p.m.

Eala became the first Filipino player to reach the third round of a Grand Slam after dispatching Maya Joint, 3-6, 6-2, 6-0, last Thursday.

World No. 32 Eala and No. 3 Swiatek split their last two matches.

The Filipino netter won their first clash, 6-2, 7-5, at the Miami Open quarterfinals on hard court in March last year.

The Polish Swiatek defeated Eala the following month at the Madrid Open on clay, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

The winner on grass advances to the round of 16.
