Teenagers lead Ventnor Cricket Club's second team to a dominant victory.

Ventnor CC's second team moved up to fourth place in Division 2B of the Hampshire League after securing a comprehensive nine-wicket win at struggling Steep CC.

On Saturday, second team captain Ben Davies won the toss, and the game got off to a promising start with Oliver McQuillan and Darcy Cassidy taking early wickets in the first ten overs.

James Curtis stood out as the top bowler later in the afternoon, taking three wickets for 29 runs over nine accurate overs.

His efforts were complemented by Kev Cooper, who also claimed three wickets for 28 runs, leading to the home side being bowled out for 166.

Teenagers Tom Noyes and Ben Fry then stepped up with a remarkable opening partnership of 135 runs.

Fry was eventually dismissed after scoring a solid half-century, which included eight fours.

Noyes continued his outstanding performance, finishing unbeaten on 96, hitting thirteen fours and two sixes, guiding his team to victory with 17 overs remaining.

Meanwhile, Ventnor's first team narrowly lost to Totton & Eling in Southern Premier League Division One.

Despite a strong bowling performance from Ollie Morgan and Dan Cox, who took three wickets for 39 runs and two wickets for 29 runs respectively, the New Forest side managed to post a total of 220-7 from their 50 overs.

The home team struggled initially, but a ninth-wicket partnership between Ethan Short and Ollie Morgan revived their hopes.

Short's extraordinary knock of 62, which included five sixes and three boundaries, brought Ventnor close to victory.

However, they fell short by just 11 runs.

In the Island Senior Cup, Ventnor's third team suffered a heavy defeat, losing by 145 runs to Newport's first team.

There was more positive news from Arreton, where Ventnor's fourth team beat Newport's second side by 26 runs in Island League Division 2.

Skipper Nick Dobson top-scored with 68, while newcomer Will Courts impressed with the ball, taking four wickets for 31 runs from seven overs.
