Six defeats in seven games has now left Chelsea seven points adrift of the Champions League places. So, who is to blame? Alan Shearer discussed whether it is Liam Rosenior or Todd Boehly.Failure to qualify for the Champions League is a disaster for Chelsea, on so many levels. Financially, it could be that Chelsea miss out on £300m. Then the fallout begins, and players start to consider a move.Rosenior’s future comes under the microscope, too. While there are sections of the fanbase that still feel sympathy for their manager, others are becoming fed up with Rosenior’s antics in front of a camera. One clean sheet in the Premier League and 35 goals conceded in all competitions under Rosenior 😳But who is to blame for Chelsea’s woes? Is it the ownership and Todd Boehly’s stubbornness to continue with a five-year plan that is simply not going to plan? Or, is it Rosenior: could he be doing a lot more?Alan Shearer thinks he knows who is to blameIronically, Saturday’s performance against Man United was much-improved. Yet, Chelsea suffered a 1-0 defeat despite hitting the woodwork on four separate occasions. It seems Chelsea are lacking luck, too.Especially given Liverpool and Aston Villa both scored late winners on Sunday. On NBC Sports, Shearer was asked who is to blame, and he believes gaffer Rosenior does need to shoulder some responsibility.“A bit of both. I think the system Chelsea have adopted and chosen to do is very difficult for whoever goes in there. We’ve seen many managers go in there and struggle. He’s doing the same,” Shearer said.“It’s difficult to get young players and get them to compete, week after week, and then try to turn it into a huge profit. That’s a difficult job for any manager, let alone a young manager. I blame a bit of both.”Brighton next: Liam Rosenior must beat his old sideGlenn Hoddle thinks Rosenior will remain in a job, but there is a growing feeling among the fanbase that while Rosenior has been given one of the hardest jobs in football, some of his decision-making is poor. His substitutions, what he says in press conferences, his continued use of Wesley Fofana – there is a sense that Rosenior is now starting to get things wrong. That has to change against Brighton on Tuesday night.Reece James and Levi Colwill watched on as Chelsea lost a fourth consecutive Premier League game against Manchester United! Where would the Blues be if they stayed fit? 🤔Top five?Rosenior played more than 50 times for the Seagulls at the end of his career, and then entered the world of coaching as Brighton’s U23 assistant manager.
