Chelsea face colossal bill to sack Liam Rosenior as eye-watering 'payout' comes to light

Liam Rosenior is at risk of losing his job, though Chelsea may think twice about sacking another manager that would require a significant payout

Chelsea would have to pay Liam Rosenior up to £24million to sack him. Pressure on the 41-year-old's position has increased significantly after Tuesday's 3-0 defeat to Brighton with it coming as the Blues' fifth consecutive Premier League defeat without scoring.

Supporters in the away end at Amex Stadium made their feelings clear that they want him gone. If the Chelsea hierarchy do listen to that demand, and assuming no clauses have been included in his contract, it is set to roughly cost an extortionate £24million, as reported by The Sun, with Rosenior said to be earning £4million-per-year under a deal that does not expire until the year 2031.

Graham Potter, Enzo Maresca and Mauricio Pochettino have all received financial packages after being sacked by the club over the last few years.

And Rosenior could be set for similar with Chelsea still 10 points off the Champions League qualification places with just four league games left, while Leeds United at Wembley in the FA Cup semi-finals is their next challenge on Sunday.

It was a turgid display by Rosenior's side on the south coast as they had just six shots and failed to even get one on target while Brighton managed nine at Robert Sanchez's goal from a total of 15 attempts. Unsurprisingly, Rosenior was far from pleased after the defeat and he made that clear in his post-match interview.

Rosenior furiously told Sky Sports: "By far, by far [that was the worst performance of the lot]. That was unacceptable in every aspect of the game. Unacceptable in attitude. I keep coming out and defending the players... that was indefensible, that performance tonight.

"The manner of the goals we conceded, the amount of duels that we lost, the lack of intensity in the team. Something has to change drastically right here, right now.

"I can't keep coming out here defending some of the things that we're seeing. The general attitude, spirit, was lacking. The determination [was there] from three or four of the starting eleven. That's nowhere near enough for this club. I can't come out and lie. I'll tell the truth. That was an unacceptable performance in every area.

"That doesn't represent anything that I want to see, and I won't ever see it again. The performance in terms of professionalism wasn't there. Some of the things I witnessed today, I never, ever want to ever see again.

"If you're playing for this club, at this elite football club, or any football club, to be even accused of throwing the towel in is unacceptable.

"Yeah, that's all I'm going to say. I'm hurting, I feel numb. That doesn't represent me. That doesn't represent the football club in anyway. That has to change.
