Emma Raducanu didn't get the career-first grass court title she craves, but the way she fought back from a tough first set should stand her in good stead heading into Wimbledon in two weeks time.

It's been an impressive week for the British number one, who overcame a packed schedule as well as injury.

It's been a turnaround for both of them and they will both leap up into, at the moment, seeded positions for Wimbledon.

Emma at 31 in the world and Donna actually goes up to 32 in the rankings when they are released on Monday.

The rest of the draw will be rather relieved not to have those two floating around.

Donna Vekic also thanked her coach, David Felgate: "I have to say thanks to my coach David. We have worked together since I have been 12 years old. You raised me, without you I wouldn't even know what grass is.

"When I called you two weeks ago to ask you to help me with this grass court season you said yes and thank you so much, without you I wouldn't be here with this trophy."

She added: "This is really my favourite time of the year, my favourite surface. I really made the most out of it this week and I will see you all in two weeks at Wimbledon. Thank you guys for all your support."

Queen's champion Donna Vekic speaking to BBC Sport: "I was always jealous of the boys playing at this club and this amazing court. I love this court, I love the grass, I have really enjoyed myself this week.

"Winning 6-0 [in a first set] is sometimes a curse in tennis. Emma rally stepped up an played some amazing tennis. I just tried to stay with her, make her play it out, stay with every single ball. Her last service game and the tie-break is a bit of a blur right now, but I'm really happy I managed to win.

Emma Raducanu added that she hoped the women's tournament would be able to stay at Queen's "for years to come" before saying a few kinds words about her opponent, Donna Vekic:

"What a week for you, from qualifying all the way to the title. You played really well so all the best."

Of course, Raducanu knows a thing or two about that journey, after coming through qualifying to win the US Open.

Champion Donna Vekic responded with some kind words of her own, for Emma Raducanu and the Queen's Club: "Wow, first of all congrats Emma on such a great week. You are such an incredible player and I wish you and your team all of the best for the remainder of the grass season.

"Growing up and watching the tour I was always jealous of the boys having a chance to play at this amazing club.

"I am very grateful that since last year we have had the opportunity to play here as well. Thank you to everyone who made this happen, we really enjoy it."

Disappointment for Emma and the British fans, but what a final that second set was. Some of the best tennis I have seen from two women this season.

Emma left it all out there, but Donna Vekic - from lucky loser, growing in confidence, playing incredible tennis, she really deserves it.

Beaten finalist Emma Raducanu was still able to smile in defeat after what has been a very positive week for her at the Queen's Club:

"It's been an incredible week for me, making the final here, playing in my home city, in my home tournament. The support I have received all week has been incredible but I really want to take this opportunity to thank everyone.

"Today was a really tough match. Donna played extremely well from the start to the finish. So thanks for getting me through some tough moments this week and also for helping me push back in that second set."

Everything looked to be falling apart for Donna Vekic when she trailed 2-5 in the second set, but she dug deep and halted Emma Raducanu's fightback.

Raducanu will be disappointed not to take that to a third set, but she can be proud of the way she fought back after losing the first set to love.
