Kohli surpasses 15,000 ODI runs as India beat West Indies

In Singapore, India’s cricket team defeated the West Indies by eight wickets in the first ODI match of the series. Virat Kohli became the second player after Sachin Tendulkar to score 15,000 runs in this format. As Channel NewsAsia reports, Kohli scored an unbeaten 139 runs off 88 balls.

India’s chase

India chased a target of 296 runs and reached it with 50 balls remaining in the allotted innings, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. Shubman Gill scored 110 runs off 108 balls, while his partnership with Kohli produced 151 runs off 132 balls.

Rohit Sharma and Gill scored 74 runs at the start of the chase, after which Sharma was dismissed in the 12th over. Kohli, who came in at number three, recorded his 86th century in international cricket. After Gill’s dismissal, Ruturaj Gaikwad scored 13 runs off 19 balls, while Kohli finished the match with two consecutive boundary shots.

West Indies innings

The West Indies team, which batted first, scored 295 runs. Justin Greaves and John Campbell put together an opening partnership of 135 runs off 117 balls. Greaves scored his first ODI century and became the team’s top scorer.

Kuldeep Yadav dismissed Campbell in the 20th over and finished the match with four wickets for 40 runs conceded. Between the 31st and 36th overs, the West Indies lost four wickets while scoring only 22 runs. Amir Jangoo responded with 58 runs off 43 balls and, together with Roston Chase, helped the team recover from 198 runs for five wickets.
