Kenya’s impressive run at the inaugural FIFAe Nations League 2026 (FT eFootball console) came to an end at the semi-final stage after a hard-fought defeat to African champions Morocco on Match Day One.

After topping Group B with 12 points from five matches, Kenya entered the knockout rounds full of confidence and momentum. The team was grouped alongside Senegal, Nigeria, Tanzania, Mauritius, and Chad, where they delivered consistent, attacking performances to finish first, edging Senegal by a single point.

Their group stage campaign was dominant. Kenya opened with a commanding 3-0 win over Chad before dispatching Tanzania by the same scoreline. A 3-1 victory over Mauritius further strengthened their control, followed by a convincing 3-0 win over Nigeria. Their only setback came in a 4-0 loss to Senegal. Across five matches, Kenya scored 12 goals and conceded five, securing top spot in style.

Carrying that form into the knockout rounds, Kenya defeated Guinea in the Round of 16 with a 3-0 and 1-0 aggregate scoreline. They then delivered another composed performance in the quarter-finals, beating Egypt 3-1 and 3-1 to reach the semi-finals.

However, their run was halted by Morocco. The tie was tightly contested, with Kenya losing 2-0 in the first leg before battling to a 1-1 draw in the return match. The narrow defeat ended a spirited campaign, though it highlighted Kenya’s growing presence in the global esports scene.

The squad, competing under the banner “Team Whipsmen” after emerging from the Nairobi eFootball Cup in March 2026, displayed tactical discipline and mental resilience throughout the April-to-July FIFAe circuit. Their participation, facilitated through collaboration between the Football Kenya Federation and the Esports Kenya Federation, marked a key milestone for Kenyan esports.

“It’s a proud semi-final finish in the FIFAe Nations League ft eFootball console on Match Day 1. Eliminated by African champions in a close tie. We go again on 12th May 2026 for Match Day 2,” the Esport Kenya federation noted after the match.

Despite exiting at the semi-final stage, Kenya’s performance reinforces its ambition to qualify for the FIFAe World Cup 2026 and establish itself as a competitive force on both the continental and global esports stage.
