James Fuller has fallen into the Dom Sibley trap, straying onto leg stump only to be glanced away to fine leg for his first runs of the afternoon - four of them.

But they're his last... Sibley has gone.

He's trying to work this slightly straighter one towards mid-wicket but gets his timing wrong for once, being struck low infront and up goes the finger, though Sibley was already on his way.

The visitors have a bowling point and a really good 39-run knock comes to an end, Ollie Pope is the new batter.

Dan Lawrence gets a huge slice of luck as he tries to clip Kyle Abbott through mid-wicket, only for the ball to flick off the back of his willow and fly past the slips to the rope at third.

Abbott replies with a thump at the top of the pads as Lawrence shoulders arms, it was always heading over.

Surrey have scored as many runs in 31 overs today as Lawrence managed from 47 balls on his own here on Friday night, by the way.

Tell you what, some of these punters have made incredible time.

The numbers at the Oval have swollen in the 65 minutes since England wrapped up victory at St John's Wood and some have clearly hopped on the Jubilee Line in quick time to make it for the start of the afternoon session here.

They'll have just seen Dom Sibley walloped in the nethers for the second time today, this time by James Fuller. He has a quick count and on we go, made of steel this chap.

I think Surrey will be quite happy where they found themselves at lunch, but the 30-45 minutes after lunch can sometimes be the busiest time for the bowlers here at Surrey.

Hampshire have bowled well, they have gone past the outside edge on several occasions, but Dom Sibley has batted beautifully.

Think we're all set for an afternoon of cricket.

if you're just joining us then Hampshire won the toss and chose to insert Surrey, who are battling injury and unavailability and are fielding an XI which looks more like a white-ball one than a traditional red-ball one, with two Currans, Will Jacks and Reece Topley all featuring.

Delano Potgieter has picked up the only wickets to fall, bowling Rory Burns and tempting Jacks into holing out off an ill-advised square drive.

The pitch looks like an unripe banana and there's plenty of swing about. Hampshire will have wanted more than two scalps before lunch, but they've come close to adding to the haul on plenty more occasions.

England beat New Zealand by 115 runs

England took less than a session on the fourth day of the first Test against New Zealand to begin their post-Ashes rebuild with a much-needed victory.

In their first Test since their 4-1 defeat in Australia, England exploited the devilishly difficult batting conditions on a poor Lord's pitch to beat the tourists by 115 runs and take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

From 55-5 overnight in their chase of 254, New Zealand's disappointing week was complete when they were hustled out for 138, thanks chiefly to Gus Atkinson's 5-30.

We've seen some good, disciplined batting.

Hampshire have bowled okay. It's unusual for Kyle Abbott to bowl 10 overs on a green wicket and not pick up a wicket. Delano Potgieter has been the man.

All you need to do is keep it in the right areas and not deviate from your plan.

Just because you haven't got your rewards in one session, doesn't mean you won't in the next.

Not the fireworks we possibly expected this morning, faced with cloud cover and a pitch the cover of the lime green bikes many people use to get to the Oval.

Surrey have batted pretty sensibly, for the most part, though Rory Burns was cleaned-up by a lovely ball from Delano Potgieter while Will Jacks, batting at three on his first Championship dig of the summer, will want back his square drive which he cracked off the South African straight down the throat of Felix Organ at backward point.

Dom Sibley has timed it supremely for his 35* and has survived a ding-dong battle with Kyle Abbott.

It's been a calm session, despite the conditions, but will the afternoon catch fire?

Kyle Abbott finds the edge of Dom Sibley's bat again but his soft hands means it drops a yard or so shy of first slip.

Abbott beats the outside edge by an inch from the next ball and Sibley learns his lesson and swishes the bat out of the way late from the next ball, only to be drawn forward to the last and see the ball whistle past the edge once again.

Kyle Abbott returns but Dan Lawrence drives his first ball off a thick outside edge, over the top of backward point and to the rope for four.

The kind of shot which will give Hampshire hope, rather than dismay, in truth.

A couple of balls later Abbott flings out a big left paw to take the sting off a firm drive and looks to the heavens as his face contorts in discomfort. No amount of shaking is going to improve that for a few minutes, sadly, Kyle. He'll need a check-up at lunchtime, that's for sure. He might have done some damage to his non-bowling hand, there.

Meanwhile his Surrey teammate Gus Atkinson has finished with a fivefer as England have beaten New Zealand over at Lord's.

Wonder how many punters will head across town to take in some more red ball cricket at The Oval this afternoon?

Another straight delivery from Sonny Baker and Sibley times it supremely past mid-wicket all the way to the rope for his sixth boundary.

A less convincing leg-side clip yields a single and brings Dan Lawrence back onto strike.

Baker slings one in outside off which takes off and swings away from Ben Brown who saves four byes with a flying stop, but Lawrence pulls the fifth ball of the over neatly to fine leg for his second boundary.
