Cork hurling review called for at Cork County Board meeting

The review suggestion was similar to last year when club delegates looked for a special meeting devoted to Cork football.

In July of last year, and in response to repeated calls for a detailed examination of Cork football, the executive produced a 2,000-word report on the state of Cork football which admitted that two of the key pillars of the 2019-24 five-year plan had not been met.

Whether any future meeting of the county board prioritises a Cork hurling discussion remains to be seen.

Separately at this month’s meeting of the Cork County Board, the executive said that with all Cork teams finished for the year, the annual review of the respective inter-county campaigns will now take place.

They were urged from the floor not to delay in carrying out these reviews.

Saturday's 11-point All-Ireland semi-final hammering to Galway concluded a Cork hurling year where the seniors reached the National League and Munster SHC finals, both of which were lost to Limerick; the U20s were knocked out at the Munster semi-final stage by eventual All-Ireland champions Clare, while the minors came off second best to Tipp in the All-Ireland semi-final.

An appointments committee will deal with any Cork managerial vacancies ahead of 2027. U20 hurling boss Noel Furlong has completed the two-year term he was given when appointed ahead of the 2025 season.
