Chelsea “closing in” on loan deal and new contract for young talent

Chelsea are close to agreeing a deal to send youngster Reggie Walsh on loan to Wigan Athletic for the season, according to Ben Jacobs.

With the preseason tour over and Chelsea's massive travelling party back in the UK and linking up with the players who have just returned from their post-World Cup break, it's time for the club to start shipping out a lot of players who were making up the numbers in Xabi Alonso's group.

Some of the youngsters who really impressed in the initial friendlies will have helped their chances of a good loan, and it seems like that includes Reggie Walsh. The 17 year old has made 4 senior appearances for the Blues and also started against Western Sydney Wanderers in our first preseason game.

His positive impact has attracted the attention of lower league clubs who want to take him for the season, and Ben Jacobs has today reported that Reggie is close to a move to Wigan on loan.

As Chelsea tend to do with academy youngsters ready to go on loan, Walsh will sign a big new deal to protect his value and his future before he heads out. We can't wait to see how the super talent gets on playing men's football.
