Sam Field has admitted his last six months at QPR were both ‘hard and difficult’.

QPR have sold the midfielder to fellow Championship side Norwich City on a permanent basis recently ahead of the 2026/27 season. He spent the second-half of the last campaign on loan with the Canaries and has now joined them full-time.

Field, 28, spent five years on the books of the Hoops and made 179 appearances for them in all competitions, 19 of which came last term under Julien Stephan. However, he was given the green light to head out the exit door last January when the Canaries swooped in.

After making the switch to Carrow Road on a three-year deal now, he has said, as per a report by The Pink Un: “I really enjoyed my time at QPR, but the last six months were hard and difficult. It was probably the right time for everyone. To come here and to fit in straight away felt so good. I felt good, and I just wanted to keep that feeling, to be honest.”

Norwich City have tied down Field on a contract until June 2029. They also hold an option to extend his stay by 12 months on top of that.

New chapter for Sam Field after QPR exit

QPR’s association with Field had run its course in the end and his departure to Norwich City suited all parties involved. The change of scene will do him good and getting him off the wage bill is a boost for the Hoops.

He will give the Canaries more competition and depth in the middle of the park. In addition, he is an experienced operator in the Football League so will be a useful character to have in and around the dressing room.

Field has left behind an R’s squad that is well stocked up with players in his position. They have the likes of Nicolas Madsen, Jonathan Varane and Kieran Morgan, among others, at their disposal.

The ex-England youth international was a good servant to QPR. However, he fell out of favour under Stephan and struggled for regular minutes, hence his move to Norwich City.

As for Field, he will be looking to get as many minutes as possible at Norwich City. The Canaries will be confident of mounting a promotion push towards the Premier League under the guidance of Philippe Clement.

Prior to his transfer to the Hoops, Field rose up through West Brom’s academy before going on to play 45 games for their first-team in his early career. The Stourbridge-born man was also loaned out to Charlton Athletic before linking up with the R’s.
