Man Utd fans now react to Liam Delap links as standout sentiment sends sign to Ineos about Chelsea striker

Manchester United fans dropped their unfiltered feelings about Liam Delap being linked with a move to Old Trafford after his Chelsea struggles — and Ineos should now take note.

Liam Delap was linked with the Red Devils last summer after Ipswich Town were relegated and the 23-year-old striker had a £30m release clause in his deal at that time.

Chelsea swooped in for the former Ipswich forward and the Blues paid an initial upfront fee of £20m and the Tractor Boys negotiated a sell-on clause in the transfer.

However, Delap struggled to replicate his superb form from his Portman Road playing days during his debut season at Stamford Bridge in the 2025-26 campaign.

Man Utd fans have not forgotten about Liam Delap choosing Chelsea over the Red Devils in 2025

Liam Delap featured in 45 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea last season and he only managed to score three times and registered one assist.

The former Ipswich striker was unable to adapt to the demands of playing for the Blues and to hold down a consistent place in the starting XI at Stamford Bridge.

Ben Jacobs revealed on The United Stand that Delap is still a forward option for the Red Devils to explore this summer, despite his underperformance at Chelsea.

Manchester United fans were very much against the idea of signing Delap and reminded Ineos of the forward picking a move to the Blues over the Red Devils.

Posting in United In Focus’ TalkingPoints, one user wrote: “Sorry, Delap [is] just not good enough. He was overhyped last year, and fortunately chose Chelsea. The season before it was Evan Ferguson, hyped up as the next big thing; where’s he now?”

Someone else commented: “Why would we go for Delap? We dodged a bullet last year when [Chelsea] bought him. This would be about as good business as Donny van de Beek or Jadon Sancho. Sometimes it is a good idea to keep your money in your pocket!”

“Good God no! Rejected us in favour of Chelsea, performs shockingly for a season and then we take him! No, no…,” a third Man Utd fan added.

Another said: “Delap is rubbish; please, [Man] Utd, don’t sign him. He had his chance before and he picked Chelsea.”

While a fifth Red Devils supporter posted: “I do actually think there’s a very good striker in Delap – but also think he needs to play transitional, aggressive football to thrive. If Carrick wants us to be more possession-based, I can’t see this fitting.”

Somebody else suggested: “15m at most to make it worthwhile. Intrigued by what he could do in a functional attack but if we allow Chelsea to make a profit on him after they beat us to his signing, it will put this window in hell.”

“Chelsea’s ability to still have their faltering big money players still attract interest from top clubs needs to be studied,” a seventh claimed.

And another TalkingPoints user argued: “Wouldn’t be surprised by this at all. Chelsea seem keen to move on and [Jason] Wilcox is a fan. One problem… He isn’t very good?”

Chelsea are believed to be after a transfer fee in the region of £35m to £40m for Delap, who is under contract at the Premier League club until 2031.

Delap made his name at Portman Road after the former Manchester City player netted 12 times in 40 matches across all competitions in his only season at the club.
