Liverpool news: Yan Diomande takes action as winger sends Andoni Iraola message

The latest update in the Yan Diomande Liverpool transfer saga has been revealed

Liverpool are far from done when it comes to moulding their squad with Andoni Iraola at the helm. The Reds boss has enjoyed a swift start in his role when it comes to transfer business thanks to the signing of Victor Munoz.

The Spaniard is slowly approaching the beginning of his first pre-season at Anfield in July. He'll also welcome Jeremy Jacquet this summer with the Frenchman's £55million deal signed under Arne Slot's reign.

Among the players the Premier League side have been linked to, it's RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande that has dominated the headlines more than anybody. The transfer saga surrounding the 19-year-old - who is also subject to interest from Paris Saint-Germain - existed long before Iraola's appointment.

However, an update in the race for his signature has been reported with the Spanish boss also being handed a message from the World Cup 2026. Mirror Football takes a look at the latest stories regarding the Merseyside outfit.

Diomande's decision

The continuing saga of Yan Diomande's future has taken another step towards a potential Anfield arrival. German outlet Bild reports that the Ivorian's agency - Roc Nation - is pressuring RB Leipzig to accept Liverpool's proposal of €100million (£86.7m) to sign the attacker.

The offer was turned down by the Bundesliga side who reportedly desire a package closer to €120m (£104.1m) in order to sanction the sale of their star player. The winger is currently starring for Ivory Coast at the World Cup and previously dealt a blow to the Reds' chances of acquiring him after admitting he "loved" Paris Saint-Germain.

The Champions League holders are said to be in the race for Diomande, who said: "Paris Saint-Germain is a team I’ve loved since I was a child. My father supports Paris Saint-Germain, and it’s a team I admire as a football fan.

"It would be a pleasure for me to come and play at Paris with one of the biggest clubs... It’s always pleasure to come here also because with French being spoken, I think adapting wouldn’t be difficult. But why not?"

Cody Gakpo message

Cody Gakpo was one of several Liverpool players that came under significant scrutiny for their below-par performances this season. However, the Dutchman has rebounded from his club disappointment to enjoy a storming start to his World Cup campaign with the Netherlands.

He scored twice and teed up an assist in their 5-1 rout of Sweden in their second group game to make it five goals in his last two World Cup tournaments. Following the game, the winger was asked about his role compared from club to country to which he hinted at a lack of freedom at Liverpool.

Gakpo answered: "A good question. Obviously it’s a little bit different. It’s different where the coach wants me to be, the freedom that I have." For much of the season, the 27-year-old was stuck on the left touchline with the inside channel usually occupied by Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz at times.

Gakpo has been afforded the opportunity to play closer to goal under Ronald Koeman with his admission potentially sending a message to Iraola over his left-wing spot, where he now has three options at, including Munoz and Rio Ngumoha.
