Osaka withdraws after one set of final

Naomi Osaka called time early on her first grass final in tennis against Karolina Muchova, needing a brief medical timeout a week before Wimbledon 2026.

In the women’s singles finale at the Bad Homburg Open in Germany, Muchova won the first set 6-1 and held her serve in the first game of the second before Osaka withdrew.

The Japanese star had arrived in the final after a flawless week of work in a bid for her first title in five years. She had not dropped a set in all four games prior.

But within the final’s first fifteen minutes, she had dropped three straight games.

An ace eventually sealed her first and only game of the match, which then quickly extended away from her again.
