Craig Bellamy set to stay at Wales amid Burnley links

Talks were understood to be at an advanced stage between Burnley, the 46-year-old, and the Football Association of Wales. However, Bellamy is now expected to remain in his current role with the national side.

The reasons behind the breakdown in negotiations remain unclear. Bellamy has prior ties to Burnley, having served as assistant to Vincent Kompany during his time at the club.

The former Wales captain is under contract with the FAW for a further two years and recently indicated his intention to continue in the role.

Appointed in July 2024, Bellamy made an encouraging start, guiding Wales to a nine-match unbeaten run and promotion to Nations League A. However, his side narrowly missed out on qualification for this summer’s World Cup, losing on penalties to Bosnia and Herzegovina in their play-off semi-final in March.
