All the details as Kobbie Mainoo pens new Man Utd contract to complete post-Amorim turnaround

Kobbie Mainoo has come back from the brink and secured a much-deserved contract extension at Man Utd.

Time moves quickly in football, and for Kobbie Mainoo, it moved rapidly, as he has gone from demanding a January loan move to becoming the first name on the teamsheet.

He deserves as much credit for this turnaround as Michael Carrick, who has unleashed Mainoo and built the team around him.

Kobbie Mainoo signs new Man Utd contract

The talks to extend Mainoo’s contract had been in the works even before Ruben Amorim took over.

He was still on the contract given to him upon his senior team breakout, and didn’t reflect his meteoric rise since then, which culminated in a starting place in the Euros Final.

Needless to say, Amorim’s (lack of) usage of Mainoo forced Man Utd to shelve extension talks, as they even entertained selling him at one point.

Carrick brought him back from the brink, and Mainoo has repaid that trust, with United now finishing this story by finalising a contract extension.

As per Man Utd’s official website, Mainoo has signed an extension that ties him to the club until 2031, which means he joins Amad as one of the players in the current Man Utd squad who were here under the Glazers, but received the ultimate backing from Ineos.

Mainoo is reportedly set to earn around £135k-150k/week, which brings him in line with the established members of the squad under Ineos’ new pay structure.

Seeing how young he still is, Mainoo has already faced a rollercoaster career, but he hasn’t faced the challenge he’s about to face.

The initial contract was nowhere near the money he’s on now, which is where someone like Alejandro Garnacho also lost his way.
