England start their one-day series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday in fine spirits after a clean 3-0 sweep in the T20Is, and Harry Brook's side will hope that form carries over into the 50-over format at the Riverside Ground.

Joe Root remains the player England lean on most in the middle order. He has scored 525 runs at an average of 105 in ODIs this year and looks set to anchor the innings once again.

Jofra Archer returns full of confidence as well with his T20 and Test exploits this summer and his contest with Sri Lanka's Dasun Shanaka would be one to vouch for given the pair are franchise teammates.

Sri Lanka welcome back captain Kusal Mendis after he missed the T20 series through injury and his return should add much needed steel to a middle order that has struggled for runs on this tour.

England vs. Sri Lanka Prediction: Who Will Win?

England go into this series as clear favourites buoyed by their T20 form and a middle order brimming with runs.

Root's consistency gives Brook's side a platform to build from while Archer and the pace attack should trouble a Sri Lankan top order still finding its feet after a lean white ball tour.

Sri Lanka's spinners may pick up wickets on turning pitches later in the series but their batting depth looks short.
