Where is former WTA World No. 1 and Grand Slam champion Justine Henin?

Justin Henin is a former Belgian tennis superstar who ascended to WTA World No. 1 and held the ranking for 117 weeks.

Henin, 44, played in the era of Venus and Serena Williams, managing to win seven Grand Slam titles and a gold medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics. She also had a one-handed backhand—a shot that is almost extinct in the modern era of tennis—and was one of the first to wear a watch during her matches.

Inspired by Monica Seles, who won three straight French Opens in the early 1990s, Henin won four French Opens in a five-year span, including three straight from 2005 to 2007.

Tennis and family keep her occupied in retirement

Henin operates the Justine Henin Academy. In addition to lending her name, she plays a pivotal role in its mission of teaching tennis to all ages, from children to adults.

During her WTA career, Henin married Pierre-Yves Hardenne and briefly went by the name Justine Henin-Hardenne. The two later divorced.

She married Belgian actor and director Benoit Bertuzzo in 2015. The couple has two children—daughter Lalie was born in 2013 and son Victor was born in 2017.

After Coco Gauff won the 2025 French Open, it was Henin who presented her with the Roland Garros trophy.
