Roger Federer loses £38m overnight as net worth takes dramatic fall

Roger Federer has lost his billionaire status after his sportswear company took a major financial hit. The Swiss tennis legend owns a stake in On Holding, whose share price has plunged by around 19 per cent after a slower-than-expected second quarter of 2026.

The news saw £38million wiped off Federer's net worth overnight, meaning he is no longer a billionaire in US dollars. According to US business magazine Forbes, his worth has dropped to a still mightily impressive $952.4m (£705million). Federer became a billionaire last year, largely thanks to his decision to buy into On Holding. While the company reported £630m in net sales for the second quarter of 2026, this fell below the forecast of £650m. That led to a sharp decline in the share price and Federer's net worth.

But it's not all bad news for On, which recorded a net income of £96m, compared with a £37m loss for the same period last year. The company also increased its profit margin from 61.5 per cent to 65.4 per cent.

Federer is believed to own around 2.5 per cent of On Holding, making it a key part of his life post-tennis retirement. The 45-year-old had an endorsement deal with the company before buying into it.

On the court, Federer recently saw one of his records broken by former 'Big Three' rival Novak Djokovic, who is still going strong at 39. Djokovic surpassed Federer for the most men's singles match wins in Wimbledon history by booking a quarter-final place. He eventually lost in the semis to world number one Jannik Sinner.

The Serbian great is still chasing a record extending 25th Grand Slam title. He is already clear of Rafael Nadal, who has 22, and Federer on 20. However, Djokovic has cast doubt on whether he will win anymore by admitting he struggles to recover quickly from long five-set matches.

He told CBS: "The body is responding differently. That's just biology. The wear and tear of the 20-plus years at the highest level is just taking its toll.

"It takes more time for me to recover. After that 5-hour and 15-minute quarter-final, I just couldn’t fully recover for the semi-finals. I wasn't as fresh as I wanted to be."
