Ireland's cricket team changes coach a day after sealing T20 series win over India

BELFAST, Northern Ireland (AP) — Ireland hired a new coach for its men's cricket team on Monday, a day after sealing a historic T20 series win over India.

Gary Wilson was appointed as the team's first Irish-born head coach in more than 30 years and will replace South African Heinrich Malan.

Ireland beat India 2-0 in their T20 series in Belfast, winning matches on Friday and Sunday, and will now attempt to qualify for next year's 50-over World Cup under Wilson.

Wilson played 292 games for Ireland in a 15-year international career before retiring in 2020.
