Markram returns to South Africa squad against Australia - TimesLIVE

In South Africa, cricketer Aiden Markram is set to return to the national team for the match against Australia, which will take place on Sunday at the Wanderers. It will be his first international game since South Africa’s defeat to New Zealand in the T20 World Cup semi-final in March, TimesLIVE reports.

Markram admitted that after a lengthy break, he does not know what form he is in. According to him, he may need time at the start to find his rhythm. In recent weeks, he has trained with his provincial team, the Titans, and worked independently in the training nets at Tshwane University.

Break from playing

Markram left the Indian Premier League and The Hundred tournament early for personal reasons. He said he was happy to be back in the national team and that the situation at home had improved. The player stressed that training cannot fully replace match practice, so the lack of playing rhythm will affect his approach to the upcoming match.

South Africa have already taken the lead in the three-match series, defeating Australia in Durban by 67 runs. Markram noted that matches against the Australians help to understand the team’s current level. He also said that both national teams enjoy rivalry and intense competition.

Statistics against Australia

In Test cricket, Markram has an average of more than 60 in matches against Australia and has scored three of his eight Test centuries in games against this team. In the ODI format, his average in 14 matches against Australia is 38.15, slightly higher than his overall average of 37.09.

Markram, who will also play in the Test format, wants to get a better feel for the Australians’ game before the first Test on October 9. Australian captain Pat Cummins did not play in Durban but may return to the squad at the Wanderers. Sunday will be the 17th Pink ODI: South Africa have won 12 previous such matches in pink kits. It will be the first time the South Africans play against Australia in such attire.
