Wimbledon draw LIVE: Emma Raducanu, Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams discover opponents

0
Express Sport brings you the Wimbledon draw ahead of next week's Grand Slam.

This year's Wimbledon draw will see Serena Williams discover who she is playing in her first match at SW19 in four years. The seven-time champion will also play doubles with her sister, Venus, in the latest chapter of her stunning comeback at the age of 44. She could face any of the other 127 women in the draw, including the likes of Aryna Sabalenka and reigning champion Iga Swiatek.

Williams could also be drawn against Emma Raducanu, but the young Brit is a late injury doubt after she missed training and was spotted wearing an orthopaedic boot. On the men's side, there will be no Carlos Alcaraz at Wimbledon this year with the Spaniard still recovering from a wrist injury. That means Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic are the early favourites for glory at the All England Club.

Who are the favourites to win?

On the men's side, Jannik Sinner is the overwhelming pick to win at SW19 for the second year in a row.

The absence of Carlos Alcaraz means the Italian has a huge chance to add to his tally of Grand Slam titles.

The women's side is less clear-cut, with Aryna Sabalenka favoured by most bookmakers as things stand.

Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek and Mirra Andreeva will also have high hopes of going all the way.

Wimbledon champion announces cancer return

Chris Evert has announced that she has been diagnosed with cancer for a third time.

As a result, she won't be appearing as a pundit at Wimbledon this year.

In a statement, she said: "I have already undergone surgery as the first step in my treatment and recovery, and will begin chemotherapy in the coming weeks.

"Because of this, I will not be attending Wimbledon this year, and I will step back from my professional commitments over the next few months to focus on my health.

"Ovarian cancer is relentless, but I will stay optimistic and determined in continuing to fight this battle."

Emma Raducanu seeded for Wimbledon draw

Emma Raducanu will be hoping to avoid a nightmare draw at SW19 this year.

She will be helped by the fact she is seeded thanks to her impressive run at Queen's Club earlier this month.

Even though she lost the final to Donna Vekic, it was enough to secure her entrance into the Wimbledon draw as the 30th seed.

What is the Wimbledon heat rule?

If we have a repeat of this scorching weather next week, the Wimbledon heat rule could play a role at the tournament.

The heat stress index will be used to determine if there can be a break in play.

The index combines the temperature, humidity level and surface temperature to determine the overall heat level.

If it exceeds 30.1 degrees Celsius, a player can ask for a break.

The heat break applies to all singles matches including men's, women's, wheelchair, boys and girls, but not doubles matches.
