USA tennis star Amanda Anisimova will not continue in the 2026 Italian Open.

The World No.6 has withdrawn from the Rome tournament due to a left wrist injury ahead of her scheduled second-round match with Jelena Ostapenko on Thursday (7 May).

Lucky loser Elena-Gabriela Ruse of Romania replaced Anisimova in the main draw, but ultimately fell to her Latvian opponent.

Anisimova last competed at the 2026 Indian Wells and Miami Open. She advanced to the Round of 16 in both tournaments, but sustained an undisclosed injury in the latter. That injury forced her to pull out of the Charleston Open in late March and the Madrid Open in late April.

It remains to be seen whether the two-time Grand Slam finalist will be able to compete at the 2026 Roland Garros, particularly as she has yet to play in this season’s Clay-Court Swing.

One of Anisimova's career highlights was reaching the French Open semi-final in 2019.

The 2026 tournament runs from 18 May to 7 June.
