What is the significance of Pink ODIs?

Pink ODIs hold deep significance beyond cricket. The tradition started in 2013 in collaboration with the McGrath Foundation, inspired by the iconic Jane McGrath Day in Sydney.

The South African team wears pink jerseys to raise awareness about breast cancer, a prevalent disease among women.

Proceeds from Pink Day go toward the Breast Care Unit at Charlotte Maxeke Hospital in Johannesburg, helping fund testing, screening, and treatment. In just over a decade, this initiative has raised nearly R10 million for breast cancer care.

Cricket South Africa actively encourages fans to participate by wearing pink and supporting the cause. The motto Early Detection Saves Lives underscores the critical message of this campaign.

Pink Day has also become a celebrated cultural event in South Africa, comparable to iconic sporting moments like the Soweto Derby.
