If they can record a maiden World Cup knockouts win Australia would then face Argentina or Cabo Verde in the round of 16.

A miracle run to the quarter-finals would see the Socceroos facing one of Switzerland, Algeria, Colombia or Ghana.

The Socceroos could then, in a dream scenario, face England in the semi-finals.

Meanwhile in the final match of the group stage Austria scored in the 96th minute to force a 3-3 draw with Algeria, sending both teams through and eliminating Iran.

The teams appeared to have settled for a 2-2 draw before Riyad Mahrez put the Algerians ahead in added time.

That would’ve seen them facing Spain in the round-of-32, but now they face Swizterland instead.
