HOUSTON & AZUSA, Calif. – The Tulane track and field team finished up a full weekend of competition between the Tom Tellez Alumni Invitational and the Bryan Clay Invitational. The Saturday slate saw weather rear its head in Houston despite Sofie Groeninger etching her name into the Tulane record book, and the Wave hit the track in numerous 1,500m races in California. At the Carl Lewis International Complex in Houston, the Tom Tellez Alumni Invitational was cut short on its final day due to inclement weather. Midway through the afternoon, the effects of the weather unfortunately necessitated the cancelation of several events, including the men's 200m that five Tulane athletes were originally scheduled to run in. Despite the weather-related impacts, the Wave enjoyed a successful day of action, highlighted by Sofie Groeninger's program top 10 in the shot put and Nahema Dumonteil Cabanas winning the 400m hurdles. In the women's shot put, Groeninger hurled a 14.04m to move into fourth on Tulane's all-time leaderboard. She finished fifth in the event. Sofia Caruso also competed and placed 23rd with a mark of 9.41m. Dumonteil Cabanas delivered a time of 1:00.75 in the women's 400m hurdles to pace the field and win the event. A trio of Wave runners hit the track in the women's 200m, with Marissa Gordon leading the way with a time of 24.69 to place 18th. Brianna Brand was 24th with her mark of 24.99, and Bella Carroll was 28th after running a 25.32. In the women's 4x100m relay, the quartet of Carroll, Brand, Cosette Fleury, and Gordon ran a 49.12 to finish fourth. That would round out Tulane's action in the meet as the weather cut the schedule short.Out west, Tulane featured runners in seven different 1,500m races in the final day of the Bryan Clay Invitational. Starting off the day for the Wave was Allison Hall in the Open C race. She delivered a time of 4:49.23 to finish 74th. Next up was the women's open B race, in which Jasper Newton placed sixth with her time of 4:28.77. That mark is now 10th in program history. Also in the race was Blezzin Kimutai, who placed 32nd with her mark of 4:32.41. In the men's open B race, Paul James Pam finished 141st with his time of 3:57.76.In the women's invite, Elena Liano-Rengel ran her way into the program's top five. Her time of 4:23.61 is now fourth all-time at Tulane, and she finished 68th in the event. Not to be outdone, Gilbert Rono also ran his way into the program's top five in the men's invite. His time of 3:45:02 in now third in program history as he finished 73rd in the event. The final races of the night were the women's and men's open A races. For the women, Dana Rojas Vazquez led the way with a time of 4:33.26, placing 107th. Eliza Brand was 128th with her mark of 4:35.49, and Dorcas Naibei was 161st with a time of 4:44.05.
