He Had Just Played in the World Cup

Adams appeared in South Africa's three group-stage matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Reuters reported that he started against Mexico and the Czech Republic, then came off the bench in South Africa's 1-0 win over South Korea.

That win sent South Africa into the knockout rounds for the first time. Adams was an unused substitute when South Africa was later eliminated by Canada in the Round of 32.

E! News reported that Adams' death came just weeks after South Africa's historic tournament run.

He Played Through Personal Grief

McKenzie also revealed that Adams had been dealing with a family tragedy during the tournament. According to EW, Adams' grandmother, Marianna, died only hours before South Africa's match against Czechia in Atlanta.
