However, I expect Villa to take this more seriously than Coventry, whose relegation fears are growing with every passing week.Take a look at my three best bets for tonight’s cup-tie below, along with my analysis.Coventry City vs Aston Villa tipsHARRY REYNOLDS' TIPSodds provided byCOVENTRY vs VILLA | EFL CUP | WED 16 SEP | 20:00Aston Villa to win @ 11/10Go to siteCOVENTRY vs VILLA | EFL CUP | WED 16 SEP | 20:00Joao Gomes to be carded @ 19/10Go to siteCOVENTRY vs VILLA | EFL CUP | WED 16 SEP | 20:00Gustavo Hamer 2+ fouls committed @ 21/20Go to siteOdds courtesy of Midnite. Instead, the first edition of this West Midlands derby for 25 years almost seems in the way.Despite suffering a third loss in four games at home to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Villa won’t be panicking yet. Their team needs time to gel following a busy summer in which there were 11 arrivals and 10 permanent departures, but there is plenty of confidence in Unai Emery to make things work.Coventry, on the other hand, do not have that luxury. The Sky Blues have lost their first four Premier League fixtures without scoring and their return to the top flight after a quarter of a century is already in danger of going off the rails.I expect Coventry boss Frank Lampard to make wholesale changes to his team for tonight’s match to focus on the league. While Villa are also likely to give some of their back-up players a run-out, their second-choice squad is infinitely better. As a result, I think Villa are a decent bet to win the tie within 90 minutes tonight at odds of 11/10 with Midnite.Coventry will have been seriously wounded by the 5-0 loss at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday. The crowd will also have been impacted and it will take a lot to lift their spirits.I expect Villa to capitalise on their opponents’ weakness tonight, and I thought they may be odds-on to win this.HARRY REYNOLDS' TIPodds provided byCOVENTRY vs VILLA | EFL CUP | WED 16 SEP | 20:00Aston Villa to win @ 11/10Go to siteCard streak to continue for GomesVilla’s Joao Gomes was a prime contender to be carded last season when playing for Wolves, and he has picked up where he left off for his new club.Gomes received 10 cautions for Wolves in their Premier League relegation campaign, committing an average of two fouls per game. Only three players were booked more often in the top flight.Having joined the Villans in a deal worth £34million, the 25-year-old has been carded in all three of his games for the club. He saw yellow in the Super Cup against Paris Saint-Germain and Club Brugge in the Champions League, but was sent off in the 4-0 loss at Brighton. The midfielder can make his domestic return tonight, having completed his three-match suspension. Given his lack of playing time, it would be a surprise if Emery didn’t hand him a start.Considering how regularly he is booked, I thought there was an argument that Gomes should be shorter than 19/10 to continue his run of cards in tonight’s cup tie, and I am making that my second bet of the day.HARRY REYNOLDS' TIPodds provided byCOVENTRY vs VILLA | EFL CUP | WED 16 SEP | 20:00Joao Gomes to be carded @ 19/10Go to siteBank on Hamer to concede more foulsAnother player who is used to getting in trouble with referees is Coventry’s Gustavo Hamer, whose only start since rejoining the Sky Blues came in the EFL Cup second-round win at Plymouth Argyle. The 29-year-old picked up 12 cautions in the Championship for Sheffield United last season, a tally beaten only by Hull City’s Matt Crooks.Hamer averaged 1.2 fouls per game for the Blades last season, but has been a more regular offender for Coventry in his limited game time.Despite playing only 38 minutes of football in the Premier League this season, Hamer has been penalised three times.I expect him to be given another EFL Cup start against Villa and he will be desperate to impress to earn a chance in the league. It would not be a shock to see the midfielder’s enthusiasm resulting in him conceding fouls. He is priced at 21/20 to commit at least two fouls, which I think is decent value.HARRY REYNOLDS' TIPodds provided byCOVENTRY vs VILLA | EFL CUP | WED 16 SEP | 20:00Gustavo Hamer 2+ fouls committed @ 21/20Go to siteCoventry City vs Aston Villa oddsCoventry City @ 7/4Draw @ 13/5Aston Villa @ 11/10Odds courtesy of Midnite.
