Men’s Tennis soars to Senior Day sweep over UAB

FLORENCE, Ala. (April 6, 2026) – The University of North Alabama men's tennis team captured its seventh home win this season in a 4-0 sweep Monday over UAB in Florence, Ala.

North Alabama (12-8) wrapped up Senior Day in firing fashion, blanking the Blazers for the seventh home win on the year. A strong opening doubles display gave way to three-straight singles wins en route to the fourth all-time win over UAB and first since 1985. The outing culminated in senior Lachlan Brain being honored after the matches along with junior Alex Despoja.

The Lions end the home schedule at 7-1, showing why the UNA Tennis Courts is a tough place to play for opponents. It marked the second time in three seasons UNA finished 7-1 at home with North Alabama now 24-2 in the past three seasons. UNA went unbeaten in Florence at 10-0 during the 2025 campaign.

North Alabama was led by the efforts of five Lions in the home win. Junior Alberto Altur and sophomore Samu Dominguez both finished 2-0 with a singles and doubles win. Altur won his respective singles match from court two along with a top-flight doubles win with junior Izan Orgiles. Dominguez had a strong showing from the fifth flight in singles to go with his court-three triumph with Brain. Sophomore Satoru Nakajima rounded out the winners with a clinch in singles from court six.

Altur and Orgiles started the dual with a 6-2 doubles victory over Kaustubh Holcomb and Ondrej Valek. Dominguez and Brain followed with a 6-3 win over Tomas Tischner and Juan Pablo Valdez to take the doubles point.

Dominguez continued his excellent performance with a 6-2, 6-2 singles victory over Axel Frechet. Altur added a second UNA win with a 6-4, 6-2 result over Valek. The final victory came with Nakajima's 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Holcomb.
