Medvedev defeats Rublev in Hangzhou final - Channel NewsAsia

In China's Hangzhou, tennis player Daniil Medvedev defeated Andrey Rublev 7:5, 6:4 in the Hangzhou Open final and won the tournament title. As Channel NewsAsia reports, the match lasted 93 minutes.

Advantage on serve

Medvedev, who was the tournament's top seed, hit 23 aces and made two double faults. This title was his third of the season after victories in Brisbane and Dubai.

The win in Hangzhou became Medvedev's 24th ATP Tour title of his career and his 22nd on hard courts. During the awards ceremony, he told Rublev that he was happy to see him in the final, apologized for his good serve and expressed hope that they could finish the season just as strongly.

Battle for the ATP Finals

The title strengthened the 30-year-old Medvedev's position in the battle to qualify for the ATP Finals in Turin. The former world number one failed to qualify for the tournament last year for the first time since 2018.

The world number six will next compete in Beijing, where he will face qualifier Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round.
