Asian Games 2026, Day 7 Live: Bronze Medal alert

The gulf becomes wider still in Game 4 as the Indians unravel. Diya's service returns go awry and Manush is forced on the backfoot. They manage to eke out just two points in the game and are outplayed 8-11, 5-11, 8-11, 2-11 in 28 minutes by Wang-Sun.

Nerves and fatigue perhaps got to the duo in the end - Manush was playing his fourth match of the day, including a singles one. But they can be immensely proud of this campaign which has kept Indian TT's medal-winning run at the Asiad since 2018 going.

Forceful flicks and drives early from the Chinese pair push Manush-Diya down 0-4 in Game 3. The Indians take a timeout and though they lose two more points after, Diya breaks the rut with a superb crosscourt winner. She goes on attacking low balls and Manush holds firm to mount a fab comeback: 0-6 to 6-6!

After a bit more resistance, Manush's forehand goes long and the Chinese duo takes the third game too, 11-8. It leads the best-of-seven clash 3-0 and is one game away from the final.

Asian Games 2026, Day 7 Live: table tennis update

From Bhuvan Gupta

Short exchanges is where Diya-Manush have their best chance. As the rallies go longer, the Chinese prove simply unstoppable. They are counterlooping machines of sorts and the Indians can only circumvent that with short-smart returns and flat kill shots. Fail to get enough of those and you're doomed.

That's exactly what happens in Game 2 as Wang-Sun run away with it, 11-5.

Asian Games 2026, Day 7 Live: table tennis update

From Bhuvan Gupta

We are moments away from the start of the mixed doubles semifinal featuring Manush Shah and Diya Chitale. A reminder that while a medal is guaranteed already, the Indians are striving to make it something better than bronze - which would be a first in the country.

Before the match begins, a little something on their opponents: Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha are Chinese TT royalty. Affectionately known as 'Sha-tou', they are the reigning Olympic as well as Asian Games gold medalists, and also two of the best players China has in singles. Wang is singles world No. 1 and Sun No. 2, and as a pair they are world No. 2. They completed a hattrick of world championship titles last year and there's no doubt about who's the top dog in this encounter.

Asian Games 2026, Day 7 Live: In Case You Missed It

The Indian men's and women's kabaddi teams stayed on course for a successful defence of their gold medals as they logged facile wins to enter the finals of their respective events at the Asian Games here on Friday.

The women marched into the summit clash with a 48-24 triumph over Nepal before the men joined them with a 66-28 victory against Thailand in the last-four stage here. The comprehensive wins also kept the two defending champion teams' unbeaten run in the ongoing edition intact.

In the women's match, India established a sizeable 31-17 lead in the first half, including four all-out and four bonus points.

Nepal could never challenge India enough and managed to gather only seven more points in the second half.

The men's match followed a similar script as the Indians went up 37-18 in the first half and maintained the supremacy in the next half as well.

The gulf in talent and experience between the two teams was evident from the 15 bonus points that the Indians clinched as against 5 by Thailand during the match.

The two teams will be up against the winners of the Iran-Chinese Taipei clash in both the draws.

Two matching standing series of 291 apiece rounded out the final tally. It was a strong team effort led by individual performances from Tomar and Niraj, who finished third (589-34x) and fourth (588-34x) respectively in the qualification standings, while Patil's ninth-place score (585-26x) still counted in full towards the team's total.

Asian Games 2026, Day 7 Live: Fencing update

India suffered a double setback in the fencing events at the Asian Games on Friday, with both the men's foil and women's epee teams knocked out in the round of 16.

The men's foil team suffered a 27-45 defeat to Hong Kong, while the women's epee side went down 29-45 to Uzbekistan.

The Indian trio of Aditya, Hemash Singh Sanasam and Sachin fell behind early and could not close the gap as Hong Kong opened up an 18-point gap by the end of the seventh relay to seal it in their favour at the Aichi Sky Expo Hall F.

However, the Indian women's team of Taniksha Khatri, Yashkeerat Kaur Hayer and Mitva Jesangbhai Chaudhari stayed within striking distance at 14-17 after relay four but they struggled to keep pace as Uzbekistan pulled away from the fifth relay to seal the win.

In the men's event, the score after the first relay was 2-5, with Sachin scoring two touches against Choi Chun Yin Ryan's five.

Sanasam added three touches in the second relay, but Hong Kong extended its lead to 10-5 through Ho Shing Him Harris.

Aditya then produced India's strongest early effort, scoring six touches in the third relay, but Cheung Ka Long added five for Hong Kong, leaving India 11-15 behind.

Sachin added one touch in the fourth relay, while Ho scored five as Hong Kong moved 20-12 ahead.

The fifth relay saw Aditya score one and Choi add five, taking the score to 25-13 Sanasam hit one in the sixth relay, while Cheung added five to make it 30-14.

Aditya scored three in the seventh relay, but Ho again scored five, leaving Hong Kong 35-17 ahead.

India mounted its biggest fightback in the eighth relay when Sachin scored seven touches, while Leung Chin Yu added five for Hong Kong, reducing the deficit to 40-24.

However, Hong Kong closed out the match in the final relay, with Choi scoring five against Sanasam's three.

Team foil is a relay-style event involving three fencers from each team. The match consists of nine bouts and the scores are carried forward from one bout to the next, and the first team to reach 45 touches wins.

In foil, fencers score by hitting their opponent with the tip of the weapon on the valid target area, mainly the torso.

In epee, fencers can score a touch by hitting any part of the opponent's body, including the head, arms, legs and feet.

Unlike foil, there is no right-of-way rule in epee, so if both fencers score at almost the same time, both can be awarded a touch.

In team event, three fencers compete in nine relay bouts, with the target score rising from 5 to 45.

Asian Games 2026, Day 7 Live: Dressage explained

The object of dressage is the development of the horse into a happy athlete through harmonious education. As a result, it makes the horse calm, supple, loose and flexible, but also confident, attentive and keen, thus achieving perfect understanding with the athlete. These qualities are demonstrated by:

● The freedom and regularity of the paces.

● The harmony, lightness and ease of the movements.

● The lightness of the forehand and the engagement of the hindquarters, originating from a lively impulsion.

● The acceptance of the bit, with submissiveness/throughness [Durchlassigkeit] without any tension or resistance.

Dressage judges mark all movements [and certain transitions from one movement to another] from zero to 10. A collective mark is then awarded, and the performance that receives the highest collective mark is the winner.

It is estimated that the animals were being ridden by around 3500 BC, and among the first ancient peoples to use horses for fighting and hunting were the Hittites, the Assyrians, and the Babylonians in the second millennium BC. Horse sport events such as chariot racing featured at the ancient Olympic Games.

Dressage has its roots in the writings of Greek military leader and philosopher Xenophon, who discouraged the use of force in horse training. In 1733, French riding master Francois Robichon de La Gueriniere’s ‘Ecole de Cavalerie’ [School of Cavalry] also detailed how a horse could be trained without being forced into submission, and helped to lay the foundations of modern dressage.

Jumping’s origins can be traced to the 18th century. The Inclosure Acts of England and Wales saw the introduction of more fences to the landscape, and any riders going across country became required to clear such fences on a regular basis. The earliest jumping competitions were steeplechases over natural obstacles, with formal showjumping introduced at the 1865 Royal Dublin Society Show.

Eventing was originally a test of all the skills required by a horse and rider in battle, encompassing the obedience of dressage, the agility of jumping, and the stamina, endurance and speed of cross country.

Equestrian sport was first included at the modern Olympic Games in Paris in 1900, with jumping and driving events contested. The 1912 Games in Stockholm was the first Olympic Games to feature dressage and eventing. The establishment of the International Equestrian Federation [FEI] followed in 1921.
