MI vs PBKS, IPL 2026: de Kock ton in vain as Prabhsimran, Shreyas extend Punjab Kings’ unbeaten run

Punjab Kings continued its unbeaten run and moved to the top of the table by defeating Mumbai Indians by seven wickets at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

Deepak Chahar is back. Starts off with a wide. Slower bouncer and Stoinis is beaten! Now an inside edge and Stoinis gets a four. Another wide. Low full toss, Stonis slogs and ball goes to midwicket fence for four! That’s it. A comfortable win for Punjab Kings. Another loss for Mumbai Indians.

Shardul. Shreyas pulls, Naman Dhir drops a sitter and ball goes over the fence for a six!! Shreyas follows it up with another slog and this time it goes comfortably in the midwicket stand. Great shot.

OUT! Shreyas once again smacks the ball towards Naman Dhir at deep midwicket and this time he dives forward to complete the catch. Very good catch but maybe too late now.

Marcus Stoinis is the new man in. Shardul bowls a bouncer and that’s too high, a wide. He’s off the mark with a single. Prabhsimran takes a single as well.

Now he tucks it away towards fine leg region for a four! Short ball, Prabhsimran pulls and takes a single. Short ball, Iyer tries to upper cut but doesn’t time it, only a dot ball.

Shardul for the first time tonight. Slower bouncer to start, Shreyas upper-cuts for one. Prabhsimran drives through the cover and gets a double.

Shardul bowls too far outside off, a wide delivery. Fuller now, Prabhsimran drives for a single. Once again, a wide far outside off. Slower one, Shreyas chips in the air but safely takes a single.

Shreyas’ arrival means Bumrah is back. Guided to backward point for what should be one, but Ghazanfar makes a mess of it and gives away four! Not good from the mystery spinner. Short ball and Shreyas taps it on the head for one. Short ball, Prabhsimran lets it go. Four! Glorious shot to end the PowerPlay, rocks onto the back foot and punches it through extra-cover for four.

Ghazanfar again, too straight, and Connolly dismisses it over short fine for six! Punched to cover. Connolly swings again and misses, is it an edge? Yes it is! Connolly is on his way, Ghazanfar has another!

Shreyas is in at four, he’s been in beautiful touch last few games, and he starts with a delightful cover drive for four! Ooof! Worked through midwicket for two. Eased away for one more.

Hardik for his first over. Dropped by Bumrah at backward point! Slower ball, Prabhsimran looks to cut and offers a simple chance, but Bumrah can’t hold on. Four! Ooh, a little streaky from Connolly, flies off the outside edge to the left of short third for four. Full, and Hardik does well to stop the straight drive. Six! Great shot, length ball, and he clubs it over mid-on and all the way over the rope.

Connolly ducks under a slower bouncer. Full toss to close out the over, flies off the edge for one.

No second over for Chahar, AM Ghazanfar is into the attack, Prabhsimran takes a single. Gone! Priyansh looks to hoick it over the leg-side, and picks out midwicket! Early breakthrough for Mumbai Indians.

Fuller and wider, Arya misses the slash. Defended on a length by Arya, there’s an answer as to how they will play him. Just five from the over.

Arya defends the first ball straight and gets a single. Four! Lovely timing! On the pads, and Prabhsimran times it sweetly through the leg-side. And four more! This time it’s just gently guided to the left of short third. Punched to deep backward point for a single.

Six! First six of the innings to Priyansh Arya. Wide, and Arya throws his hands to get the ball over deep backward point. Down leg now. Four more! The pull shot comes out now, and rocket away for a boundary.

Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya have been in bruising form so far this year, and a fast start tonight would be more than handy as they look to chase down another large total.

Punjab Kings will be happy to restrict Mumbai Indians below 200. Arshdeep began well picking two wickets inside the PowerPlay. However, de Kock and Naman Dhir added 122 off 68 deliveries for the 3rd wicket to get MI back on track. But once Naman got out, PBKS clawed back into the contest, not allowing de Kock or the other batters to bat freely. Certainly not a belter of a wicket; seems a touch slow. Should be a good chase.

Vyshak for the last over. Length ball, de Kock hits straight to the bowler; a dot to begin with. Length ball, de Kock pulls and gets a double. A single off the next ball.

Length ball and Tilak pulls for four! Good shot but not much elevation to go over the ropes. Tilak tries to sneak in a quick single, Vyshak gets a direct hit and Tilak is gone. Just short of the crease.

OUT! WHAT A CATCH BY SHREYAS! Pandya smacked it straight and Shreyas jumps over the boundary, grabs the ball and releases it on time. Bartlett completes the proceedings. Great stuff. Pandya goes for 14 off 12 balls.

Rutherford is welcomed with a pinpoint yorker, a dot ball. Another yorker but this time he manages to get off the strike. de Kock takes a single to end the over.

Shashank continues. Pandya plays a dot ball. Now he takes a quick single off the second ball.

Naman takes a single and gets to his half-century off 29 deliveries. de Kock skies the ball high in the air but it falls in no-man’s land! de Kock gets off the strike.

Naman plays a dot ball. OUT! Naman hits the ball straight to long off! Length ball slapped straight into the hands of the fielder. He goes after scoring 50 off 31. Man with the golden arm, Shashank Singh!

Hardik Pandya into the attack. He is off the mark with a single. de Kock takes a single to end the over.

Jansen is back. de Kock takes a quick single off the first ball. Naman Dhir pulls and gets off the strike with a single. de Kock gives Naman the strike back and he returns the favour next ball.

Jansen comes around the wicket. A wide down the leg. de Kock takes another single. A single to end the over.

Chahal for his third. de Kock goes for a reverse sweep but gets beaten. A dot to begin the over. Now Chahal bowls on the leg side and de Kock slog sweeps over square leg boundary for a six!

de Kock takes a single off the next ball towards long on. Now Naman Dhir takes one step one ahead and plays a beautiful lofted cover drive for a six! What a fantastic shot that.

Dhir now slogs towards long on but can only get a single. de Kock ends the over with a single.

Bartlett for his third over. de Kock misses a wild swing; beaten off the pace. Four! Now he slashes past the short third fielder and gets to the fence.

SIX! Length ball and this time de Kock slogs it way into the midwicket stand for a maximum. Yorker, de Kock opens the blade and gets a single off the next ball.

Low full toss to Naman Dhir, who pushes the ball towards deep midwicket and takes a single. A single to end the over.

Chahal gets another now, he got a smacking in his first. De Kock bunts it to leg for two. Swept straight to short fine. De Kock advances, Chahal slows it down...and he’s smashed it over the leg-side! Great batting. Single to long-on, and that’s 29-ball fifty in his first match of the season for Quinton de Kock. Typically classy innings again. Drops short and Naman pulls to deep midwicket for one. Single to close out the over.

Vyshak returns, bad ball to start. Wide outside off, and de Kock slashes it over short third. Massive wide to follow. QdK looks for the lap and misses. Too wide again, this time de Kock cuts through backward point and short third for four.

Vyshak hasn’t been great so far today. Better wide yorker is dug out for one. Leg-stump full toss and Dhir finds deep midwicket. Single to end the over.

Bartlett returns, de Kock drives straight for one. Dhir drives one more straight. Beautiful wrists from de Kock to tap a brace to leg. Squeezed to the deep point fielder for one. Pace off, and Dhir slaps it to the sweeper. Lovely wrists again from de Kock to squeeze the ball past point for one.

Shashank Singh was clocked on the head while backing up the final ball of the last over, and is leaving the field with an ice-pack on his head for now. Chahal to bowl his first, and Dhir starts the over with a glorious straight six! Nudged to fine leg for one. Full again, and de Kock slog-sweeps for six more! Great shot. Thrown a little shorter and wider, but de Kock has pulled it into the gap again for four.

Wider, but too far. And again! Prabhsimran wants to review this, and his skippe does...looked OK to me, and yes, it’s inside the line. Single blocked to long-off, 19 from the over.

Vijaykumar Vyshak to close out the PowerPlay. Mix up as Dhir drives to mid-off, de Kock has given up but Shreyas can’t hit the stumps! Second run-out chance goes begging. And to make matters worse, Dhir has slugged the next ball for four! Pace off, Dhir cuts to the fielder for no run.

Swung across the line again, and it’s four more again! This time it’s a little squarer but no less effective. And now he’s clubbed it over mid-on for six more! A nice little hand from Dhir here now. Third run-out chance missed as Dhir pings another drive to mid-off and sets off for a suicidal single. Fielder misses again, so MI ends the PowerPlay on 48 for two.

Jansen is back, de Kock nurdles a single to off. Early signs are that there is some value in taking pace off, and there is a little bit of uneven bounce as well. Chahal has dropped a sitter! Dhir looks to scoop and mistimes it, Chahal comes in from short fine, but drops an absolute dolly. Maybe he lost it in the lights.

De Kock picks out mid-off with a drive. Sliced over the infield for four more now! Nudges one more to off to follow. Guided to deep point for one to end the over.

Xavier Bartlett for the first time tonight, goes full early and Dhir defends. A little too straight, Dhir clips it off the toes and a fumble at midwicket allows four. Dhir looks to go over off and mistimes it to the sweeper for a single. De Kock has a mow across the line for two.

Slower ball, de Kock waits and nudges a single. Dhir times an on-drive sweetly, but the fielder in the deep comes around to keep it to two.

Arshdeep again, a little too straight but Rickleton clips it straight to deep square-leg! And that’s 100 wickets in IPL for him! Early blow for MI!

Dhir defends again, beautiful bowling from Arshdeep. Dhir sets off for a quick single to short midwicket, would have been gone with a direct hit! What an over from Arshdeep!

Jansen to share the new ball, an all-Protea affair. Rickleton drives, toe-ended to cover for a quick single. What a way to start your IPL from Quinton de Kock! Wide outside off, and de Kock lifts it high and handsome over covers for six! Too straight now, and it clips the pad and runs away for four.

Better line from Jansen, defended. Oooh, this one keeps a bit low and bounces through to the keeper. De Kock gets a thin edge to short third for a dot. Good comeback by Jansen.

Beats the outside edge first ball! A touch of outswing to start, and Rickleton can’t resist throwing his hands at it. Curving out again, and Rickleton guides it to short third. A peach again, beats the outside edge! Thrice in four balls, how unlucky he is not to have a wicket yet! Beautiful start from Arshdeep.

Leading edge to cover now. Rickleton finally gets off the mark with a single to deep backward point, good start from Arshdeep.

We’re almost ready to begin at the Wankhede Stadium. Ryan Rickleton and Quinton de Kock were not opening partners at the T20 World Cup, but they’ve batted enough for us to be confident this could be very fun.

So an early confirmation that Rohit Sharma misses out tonight with an injury. MI has opted to get in the overseas batter in Quinton de Kock to take his spot at the top of the order partnering fellow Protea Ryan Rickleton.

The experts predict that it’s going to be a high-scoring game today as a new pitch is going to be used. It’s good for batting with a bit of a grass covering, keeping pacers in play as well.

In the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Shreyas Iyer brought in Shashank Singh to bowl and the moved worked as he immediately struck, removing Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma in one over.

He has two wickets this season...equal with Arshdeep Singh!

It seems almost certain that tonight will yield another high-scoring encounter at the Wankhede Stadium, where runs have flown with abandon so far this season.

The lowest score in four innings at this stadium in IPL 2026 is 220 for four put up by Kolkata Knight Riders in a six-wicket defeat as Mumbai Indians completed its chase with five balls to spare.

Jasprit Bumrah has been wicketless this season. He has bowled 122 deliveries so far this season and hasn’t been able to account for one wicket - his longest barren run in T20 cricket.

Arshdeep Singh is one wicket away from taking 100 wickets in the IPL. He’ll be the 31st bowler to reach that milestone.

Prasidh Krishna and Anshul Kamboj have picked 10 wickets each but the Gujarat Titans bowler holds the cap currently due to a better economy rate of 9.50. Kamboj has conceded 10.12 runs per over.

Virat Kohli currently has scored the most runs this season - 228 - and wears the orange cap. He’s followed closely by Heinrich Klaasen, who has 224 runs to his name.

Shreyas Iyer played an innings of a lifetime, scoring 87 off 41 balls to help Punjab Kings chase down a 204-run target with an over to spare and qualify for the finals. He got good support from Nehal Wadhera, who scored 48 off 29 deliveries.

Jasprit Bumrah. In 18 innings that he has bowled against Punjab Kings, Bumrah has picked 24 wickets while bowling at an economy of 6.45 and an average of 18.45.

Rohit Sharma. The MI batter has scored 634 runs against Punjab Kings in 26 innings at an average of 26.41 with a strike rate of 131.53.

Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings have played 34 matches against each other in which MI has won 17 and PBKS has won 16, while one game was tied. In the 2025 season, Punjab defeated Mumbai two times they met including the Qualifier 2.

Rohit Sharma did bat a bit on the eve of the match and jogged. However, MI management will take a call on his participation at the 11th hour it seems. If Rohit doesn’t play, Naman Dhir might open the innings with Ryan Rickelton.

Mumbai Indians has updated its squad, adding 21-year-old all-rounder Krish Bhagat in place of Atharva Ankolekar.
