No. 29 seed Alex Eala guaranteed P7.2M prize money in Wimbledon

MANILA, Philippines — Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala will secure at least £89,000 or more than P7.2M prize money in her Wimbledon return in London, England.

Eala will earn £80,000 for a first-round appearance in singles play and will receive a share of £9,000 for a first-round stint in doubles.

The 21-year-old will enter the third major of the year slated from June 29 to July 12 as the No. 29 seed, becoming the first Filipino singles seeded player in a Grand Slam tournament.

Eala will team up anew with Czech Nikola Bartunkova in the Wimbledon doubles.

Eala and Bartunkova first played together in the Birmingham Open earlier this month, making a first round exit.

They eventually met in the singles final with Eala winning the 125 tournament for her second title.
