Former South African Football Association coaches’ director and well-known SuperSport Television football strategist Sudesh Singh has joined the Malawi women’s football team coaching panel alongside compatriot Tyrese Steyn.

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) confirmed via a statement that Singh has joined the Scorchers as a technical advisor, with Steyn serving as Performance Analyst, a role he held with the UJ Women's football team.

FAM president Fleetwood Haiya said the South Africans have come on board to work alongside the Scorchers coach Lovemore Fazili ahead of the team’s maiden Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) appearance in Morocco from 25 July to 16 August 2026.

MALAWI STRENGTHENING FOR WAFCON

“We had a report from the Technical Committee, which proposed that we need to beef up the technical panel. We believe in Lovemore Fazili, and I have said it many times that Fazili is the best coach for our women’s team, and we are going to maintain him,” said Haiya.

“Today, we are operationalising the decision made by the Executive Committee to strengthen the team. We are very thankful that we have Sudesh, who has vast experience, especially at this stage when we are going to Wafcon for the first time.”

Singh has since told the FAM media that he is excited about the challenge of contributing to the success of the Malawi team.

“I think you have a very talented group of ladies, and I believe the Scorchers can be a dark horse in this tournament. Yes, it is a difficult group with defending champions Nigeria, but with the talent that I have seen in the few days I have been here, I believe this team can cause an upset in Morocco,” he said

Singh, a coaches’ educator and instructor, boasts over three decades of coaching experience gained from working with South African clubs such as Mamelodi Sundowns and AmaZulu FC in addition to similar roles in Vietnam and Botswana.
