RSA vs AUS Match Prediction & Analysis

South Africa is set to face Australia in the 3rd ODI match of the Australia tour of South Africa 2026 on September 30 at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom.

Delivering a brilliant performance, South Africa clinched the series with two consecutive victories; they will now aim to maintain this momentum and complete a clean sweep.

On the other hand, Australia's biggest concern is their middle-order batting: despite getting off to a good start, the middle- and lower-order batsmen fail to capitalise on the platform set by the openers. They certainly need to improve in this regard.

TEAMS PREVIEW

South Africa Preview

South Africa produced another outstanding performance in the second ODI, defeating Australia by 32 runs to seal the series. Batting first, the hosts posted a massive 365 before dismissing Australia for 333.

The Proteas once again endured an early top-order collapse, but captain Temba Bavuma anchored the innings with a composed 103 off 116 balls. The star of the match was David Miller, whose sensational 142 from just 93 deliveries lifted South Africa over the 350-run mark and proved impactful in securing the series victory.

The bowlers also performed well while defending the target. Lizaad Williams was the standout performer, claiming 3 wickets for 54 runs in his 7.5-over spell. While Marco Jansen, Keshav Maharaj and Bjorn Fortuin took two wickets each.

In the batting department, Matthew Breetzke can perform well, as he has scored 347 runs at an average of 49.57. Quinton de Kock has also been in good form, scoring 319 runs in his last 7 matches with an average of 53.17.

In the bowling department, Bjorn Fortuin has picked up 9 wickets in his last six matches, while Corbin Bosch has taken 8 wickets in the previous eight games.

Australia Preview

This series has been disappointing for Australia, and they have already lost the series after a 32-run defeat in the second ODI. Chasing a challenging target of 366 runs, they could only manage 333 runs despite a brilliant start from the top order.

While chasing the target, Australia's top order gave them a strong start, successfully scoring over 130 runs in the first 17 overs; however, the team lost momentum after Mitchell Marsh’s dismal, who had scored 84 off 53 balls.

Travis Head also played a knock of 84 runs off 76 balls. Their middle-order batters certainly got a good start, but they failed to convert it into a big score. Although Xavier Bartlett played an innings of 50 runs off 28 balls in the lower order, Australia had already fallen behind in the match due to the poor performance of the middle order.

Earlier, while bowling, Jack Edwards delivered an impressive performance, taking five wickets for 67 runs in 10 overs, while Josh Hazlewood also claimed three wickets.

Despite the previous game defeat, Australia’s top order is in good form. Cooper Connolly has scored 385 runs in his last 9 ODI games with an average of 42.78, while Matt Renshaw has scored 253 runs in the last ten games.

With the ball, Nathan Ellis remains a major threat for the South African side as he took 20 wickets in his previous nine matches.
