37 years since the 16th Spanish Cup in football

Real Madrid lifted their 16th Spanish Cup in football on June 30, 1989. The opponent was Valladolid, in a match played at the Vicente Calderón. A goal by Gordillo in the first five minutes decided the final for the squad managed by Leo Beenhakker.

On the road to the title, Real Madrid eliminated Elche in the Round of 32, Sporting Gijón in the Round of 16, and Celta in the quarterfinals. The semifinal featured a derby against Atlético, where our team won 0-2 in the first leg and 1-0 in the second leg. The victory over Valladolid capped off a great season in which the team also won the League and the Spanish Super Cup.
