Thiago Silva has made his thoughts on one recent Chelsea transfer decision abundantly clear with a post he made on social media during the World Cup

Thiago Silva has made his sadness at Chelsea's decision to sell Marc Cucurella clear. The left-back's move to Real Madrid in a £52million deal was confirmed by both the Blues and the Spanish heavyweights.

He will depart the club after Los Blancos offered £47.4m up front and £4.3m in add-ons. The 27-year-old was one of the most experienced players in Xabi Alonso's squad.

His departure comes a matter of months after Cucurella criticised the lack of experience in the squad and specifically referenced the Blues' board's strategy of signing young players from around Europe and South America. Considering Silva has also previously criticised the transfer strategy, he made his point of view on Cucurella's exit clear.

Not long after Chelsea announced the Euro 2024 winner's exit on Instagram, Silva took to the comments section and posted a crying face emoji.

The statement in question read: "Marc Cucurella has completed a permanent transfer to Spanish La Liga side Real Madrid. "Everyone at Chelsea FC would like to thank Marc for his efforts during his time at the club and for the role he played in our recent achievements. "We wish him every success as he begins the next stage of his career."

Silva's reaction was a short but clear message on Cucurella's departure from Stamford Bridge. It may also be a pointed comment at the club's board, considering Cucurella was one of the team's biggest leaders.

In March, not long before Liam Rosenior's sacking, the ex-Brighton and Hove Albion defender took aim at the transfer strategy of the last few seasons. He said: "I understand this is part of the club's policy, and that they want to take this direction - signing young players and looking to the future.

"But, for all of us who are still here and want to win big things, moments like this make you feel discouraged. We have a good core of players. The foundations are there.

"But to fight for major trophies such as the Premier League or the Champions League, you need more. Signing young players only might complicate achieving those goals. Against PSG, we lacked players that had gone through situations like that.

"You need time as well, and I know the young players are the ones that will have the experience in the future. But you need to find the balance between both worlds."

Silva also made this point clear after Chelsea were comfortably knocked out of the Champions League quarter-final by Real Madrid in 2023. He said: "I think the first step has been made, an incorrect step, but it has been made.

"We can't be blaming the managers if we don't take responsibility. It's a hard period for the club, with a lot of indecision. Change of ownership, new players arriving - we had to increase the size of the changing room because it didn't fit the size of the squad."
