Ranking all 48 countries by odds to win 2026 World Cup

2
Every national team that qualified for the tournament has played its first match and the overall picture of the 2026 World Cup is coming into focus.

With at least one match for every competing team in the books, BetMGM Sportsbook's odds for this year's tournament have started to shift as top contenders separate from the pack. Some teams saw their odds rise after strong opening performances, while other nations' odds have lengthened significantly.

France is alone as the top favorite to win the 2026 World Cup over a field of 48 teams — the most in tournament history — after a convincing win over Senegal in its first match. Another notable riser was the United States, with the USMNT's convincing 4-1 victory over Paraguay enough to push it into the top 10 in betting odds.

Spain, the co-favorites with France entering group play, had its odds dip slightly after only managing a scoreless draw against huge underdogs Cape Verde. Belgium's odds also fell after a 1-1 draw with Egypt, dropping the Red Devils out of the top 10 favorites by betting odds.

USA TODAY Sports has power ranked all 48 teams in the 2026 World Cup by their latest betting odds to win the tournament through each nation's first match. Here's how they stack up:

Ranking World Cup teams by odds to win it

Odds via BetMGM as of Thursday, June 18.

1. France (+375)

A brace from superstar Kylian Mbappé helped lead France to a 3-1 win over Senegal to begin World Cup play and push Les Bleus into sole possession of the betting favorite spot.

2. Spain (+500)

Spain may have only mustered one point against Cape Verde as massive favorites entering both teams' tournament-opening match. However, La Roja is still one of the top favorites to win this year's World Cup.

3. England (+550)

Could this be the year that football comes home? England is still seeking its first World Cup win since 1966, and the Three Lions are off to a good start after Harry Kane's brace helped lead them to a 4-2 win over Croatia to open the 2026 World Cup.

T-4. Argentina (+800)

Take a bow, Lionel Messi. The man many call the greatest player of all time scored a hat trick against Algeria in his sixth career World Cup. His three scores in 80 minutes tied him for most World Cup goals by a single player ever (16) and led Argentina a 3-0 victory.

T-4. Portugal (+800)

Cristiano Ronaldo will have another chance to tie Messi (and Miroslav Klose) for World Cup scoring glory when Portugal plays Uzbekistan on Tuesday, June 23. In their opening match, Ronaldo and Portugal settled for one point in a 1-1 draw with DR Congo.

6. Brazil (+900)

Brazil needed a first-half equalizer from Vinícius Júnior to come away with a 1-1 draw against Morocco in their first match of the World Cup. Brazilian star Neymar missed his team's first match with injury and is likely to miss its second against Haiti.

7. Germany (+1200)

Germany's first match of the 2026 World Cup was also the most lopsided of any tournament-opener this year. Six different players scored in a 7-1 win over Curaçao, and Kai Havertz led the way with a brace of his own. But given that Curaçao is one of the worst teams in the tournament, the victory did not raise Germany's odds to win the World Cup by much.

8. Netherlands (+2000)

The Dutch national team did not see its odds change. The Netherlands narrowly missed a win in its first match after Japan scored its second goal in the 89th minute to equalize and save a point in a 2-2 draw. Oranje saw captain Virgil van Dijk score his 13th international goal to open the match.

9. Norway (+2800)

Norway's odds leapt after Erling Haaland's brace helped lead his team to a 4-1 win over Iraq. The Norwegian team, playing in their first World Cup since 1998, are seeking their third ever appearance in the Round of 16. A spot in the quarterfinals would be Norway's best-ever finish.

T-10. Morocco (+3300)

Coming off of a fourth-place finish in the 2022 World Cup, Morocco got off to a good start in this year's tournament by scoring first against Brazil. The team's 1-1 draw to start group play boosted their odds enough to get it into the top-10 betting favorites.

T-10. United States (+3300)

Welcome to the top 10, USMNT. The U.S. put together one of its best World Cup performances ever in a 4-1 victory over Paraguay – one that included a first-half brace from Folarin Balogun. All eyes are on star midfielder Christian Pulisic heading into a clash with Australia after a calf injury caused him to miss the entire second half of the Americans' first match.
